This giveaway ends at 11:59 p.m. CST on Tuesday, January 21, 2014.  One winner will be selected.  The winner will receive four (4) reserved seating tickets to the Tuesday, January 28, 2014, 7:30pm rodeo performance at the Fort Worth Stock Show and Rodeo.  The prize package has no cash value.  Odds of winning depend on number of entries. This giveaway is open to U.S. residents only, 18 years old or over. The winners will be chosen using Random.org to select the winning entry. The winner will be notified by email and will need to claim the prize by responding to the email notification within 24 hours.  If the prize is not claimed within 24 hours another winner will be selected.

$1 Wednesdays Fort Worth Bike Share B-Cycle

Try out the Fort Worth Bike Sharing program for a buck! Each Wednesday in January, Fort Worth B-Cycle 24-hour memberships will only cost $1 (regularly $8).

To participate, go to any of the bike stations  to purchase the membership and check out your bike for $1.  When you are done, drop it off at any of the stations.   Do note that usage fees will still apply after 30 minutes.

There are over 30 bike station locations in Fort Worth (14 stations in Downtown Fort Worth, 7 in the Cultural District, 9 around the Magnolia/S. Main area, and 3 in the TCU area) ~ find available stations on these maps.

Blast Family Event at the Gaylord Texan

Friday, August 2, 2013 (and Every Friday through Labor Day)

Friday nights over Lake Grapevine will sparkle with spectacular fireworks each Friday through the summer (now through Labor day). If you want to add some extra fun to your family evening, plan to view the fireworks from the Gaylord Texan Resort parking garage roof ~ a great viewing platform.  They will also have a music DJ, games for kids, giveaways, and food and beverages for purchase.

Join the Fort Worth Central Library for a free showing of the film The Great Debaters featuring Denzel Washington and Forest Whitaker on Sunday, August 4th. This monthly event is part of the First Sunday Film Series which presents award-winning movies in a wide range of genres, including drama, action, comedy and science fiction. Films will be shown on the large screen of the Tandy Lecture Hall in the Central Library.

About the movie: Based on a true story, this film examines the social and racial climate of the American South during the 1930s. Teacher Melvin B. Tolson (Denzel Washington) inspires his students to form Wiley College’s first debate team, which went on to challenge Harvard in a national championship. Rated PG-13, 124 mins.

Mosey on down to the 6th Annual National Day of the American Cowboy celebration. This Fort Worth Stockyards event (FREE) has been named the “Best Event of its kind in the nation” by western lifestyle magazine, American Cowboy. It’s a day dedicated to celebrating the cowboy with lots of fun for the whole family including contests (watermelon eating, best mustache, among others), a cowboy celebration parade, gunfight shows, and more.

If you want to add some extra fun to your family evening, plan to view the fireworks from the Gaylord Texan Resort parking garage roof ~ a great viewing platform.  They will also have a music DJ, games for kids, giveaways, and food and beverages for purchase.

Through The Joint Reserve Base

Join Mayor Betsy Price and local cyclists for a ride through the Naval Air Station Joint Reserve Base to get a rare view of this Fort Worth landmark from behind the handlebars. Note that this ride is for experienced riders and will begin promptly at 8:30 a.m.  Since the base is a secure facility, there will be no late admittance, and you’ll need to bring a government-issued photo ID.  Also, due to the length of the ride (estimated at about 21 miles), the ride is not recommended for children or inexperienced riders.

FREE Summer Time Fun! Fort Worth Bureau of Engraving Tours & Special Demonstrations

If you are looking for an interesting and free outing with the kids, put Fort Worth’s Bureau of Engraving and Printing on the list.  Most people do not know that half of the nation’s paper currency is printed right here in Fort Worth and that you can tour the facility for FREE, almost year round. This week is a perfect time to visit as they are hosting a special week of interactive demonstrations (June 25 – 28 or save the date for July 23 – 26) at the facility in north Fort Worth.

Special printing demonstrations include:
•  Watch Intaglio engraving artisanship at the engraver’s workbench.
•  Learn about print plate making for currency printing presses.
•  Enjoy special educational activities in the Kids Corral where children over 8 years old can engrave and print their very own currency design.
•  See how currency was printed circa 1900 at the refurbished spider press.

Take a FREE tour and watch as billions of dollars are printed
While you are at the Bureau of Engraving and Printing, you can also take a FREE tour  and watch billions of dollars being printed as you walk along an enclosed elevated walkway that is suspended over the currency production floor.  Before or after your free 45-minute tour, enjoy two floors of interactive exhibits and displays showcasing the history of currency, the intricacies of the printing process and more.
