The 10th annual Modern Dance Festival at The Modern Art Museum in Fort Worth will feature a series of special events, concerts, films, and more.  The festival kicks off in the Grand Lobby of the Museum on Friday and features an appearance by Seattle solo dance artist Deborah Birrane,

at the Levitt Pavilion in Arlington
   Friday to Sunday, July 12-14, 2013

Join your family and friends at the last weekend of FREE summer concerts at the Levitt Pavilion in Arlington – part of their packed summer series of free music, dance and performing arts under the stars. Be sure to bring along a lawn chair or blanket to enjoy the outdoor entertainment. Snacks or a picnic dinner, and beverages are allowed, but no glass containers, please.

:: FREE Bike the Base: Join Mayor Price For a Ride
Through The Joint Reserve Base
Saturday, July 13, 2013

Join Mayor Betsy Price and local cyclists for a ride through the Naval Air Station Joint Reserve Base to get a rare view of this Fort Worth landmark from behind the handlebars. Note that this ride is for experienced riders and will begin promptly at 8:30 a.m.  Since the base is a secure facility, there will be no late admittance, and you’ll need to bring a government-issued photo ID.  Also, due to the length of the ride (estimated at about 21 miles), the ride is not recommended for children or inexperienced riders.

Starts at the NAS-JRB front gate, 226 Pumphrey Drive.

When: Riders should check in at 8:00 a.m. to make sure there is plenty of time to do a bike safety check. The ride will begin promptly at 8:30 a.m.

:: FREE Lake Grapevine Fireworks Show & Summer
Blast Family Event at the Gaylord Texan

Friday, July 12, 2013 (and Every Friday through Labor Day)

Friday nights over Lake Grapevine will sparkle with spectacular fireworks each Friday through the summer (now through Labor day). If you want to add some extra fun to your family evening, plan to view the fireworks from the Gaylord Texan Resort parking garage roof ~ a great viewing platform, and they will have a music DJ, games for kids, giveaways, and food and beverages for purchase.

Every Friday through Labor Day
8:00-10:00PM ~ Family friendly games and activities
9:30PM ~ Fireworks over Lake Grapevine (weather permitting)

Join the Noble Planetarium staff for a FREE Star Gazing party Saturday night. You will find plenty of telescopes for viewing and lots of experts available to help you and your family navigate your way through the skies.

Living Science Center in Arlington

Learn the basics of composting during this workshop led by  Arlington’s Master Gardner volunteers. The class includes demonstrations of proper compost building and tips for using a worm compost bin.  Attendees will also receive a free book.
