If you are looking for an interesting and free outing with the kids, put Fort Worth’s Bureau of Engraving and Printing on the list. Most people do not know that half of the nation’s paper currency is printed right here in Fort Worth and that you can tour the facility for FREE, almost year round. This week is a perfect time to visit as they are hosting a special week of interactive demonstrations (June 25 – 28 or save the date for July 23 – 26) at the facility in north Fort Worth.
Special printing demonstrations include:
• Watch Intaglio engraving artisanship at the engraver’s workbench.
• Learn about print plate making for currency printing presses.
• Enjoy special educational activities in the Kids Corral where children over 8 years old can engrave and print their very own currency design.
• See how currency was printed circa 1900 at the refurbished spider press.
Take a FREE tour and watch as billions of dollars are printed
While you are at the Bureau of Engraving and Printing, you can also take a FREE tour and watch billions of dollars being printed as you walk along an enclosed elevated walkway that is suspended over the currency production floor. Before or after your free 45-minute tour, enjoy two floors of interactive exhibits and displays showcasing the history of currency, the intricacies of the printing process and more.
