FREE Jazz in June Concerts in Keller ~ Thursdays

The Keller Public Arts Program is pleased to present its fourth annual Jazz in June Concert Series, returning to the front lawn of Keller Town Hall at 7:30 p.m., Thursday evenings. The concerts are free and open to audiences of all ages. You are welcome to bring lawn chairs, blankets, picnic dinners, leashed pets, and snacks and drinks to enjoy (no glass please).

The music lineup includes:

  • Thursday, June 14, Breggett Rideau
  • Thursday, June 21, Adonis Rose & FWJO
  • Thursday, June 28, Latin Express

This summer, children can bowl every day for FREE at several bowling centers around the Fort Worth and Dallas area ~ a fun activity for rainy days or when it’s just too hot to play outside! There are 2 different free kids bowling programs, so check them both out to find the most convenient location to you.

1.  AMF Free Kids Bowling:  With this program, you’ll get a weekly voucher for two free games per child, May 14 through September 3 until 8pm.   Find participating locations and sign up here.

2. Kids Bowl Free Program: Select bowling centers around DFW are participating in the “Kids Bowl Free” program.  This program allows you to register your child/children to play 2 free games EVERY day, all summer long.  Times vary by location.  Go here to learn more.

Summer Family Bowling Pass Savings:  With both of these programs, adults can get in on the fun with a family pass savings deal. The family pass includes 2 games of bowling per person, every day. The pass is valid for up to 4 adults  (ages 16 and up) and is good for the entire summer.  The programs are identical, but the costs differ depending on which family pass program you go with.  The cost for the AMF Summer pass is $29.95 and the “Kids Bowl Free” Family Pass is $24.95.

The Friday evening concert (June 8) headlines The Derailers (celebrating the legacies of Buck Owens, George Jones, Roy Orbison, Elvis Presley, Charlie Rich and more), Saturday (June 9) features No Justice (they’ve had 10 “Top 10” singles and a pair of number ones in a six-year span), and Sunday (June 10) features soul jazz artist, Red Young & Black Red Black.

Friday nights over Grapevine Lake will sparkle with spectacular fireworks each Friday through the summer, now through Labor day. If you want to add some extra fun to your family evening, plan to view the fireworks from the Gaylord Texan Resort parking garage roof ~ a great viewing platform, and they will have a music DJ, games for kids, giveaways, and food and beverages for purchase.

Join the Fort Worth Central Library for a free showing of the fun children’s movie Yogi Bear on Saturday, June 9. This event is part of the Central Library’s Second Saturday Film Series which runs monthly family friendly movies through the end of the year.

About the movie: The pic-a-nic-basket-stealing-bear joins forces with Boo-Boo and their old nemesis, Ranger Smith, in an attempt to save Jellystone Park from closing and, in the process, prove that our hero really is “smarter than the average bear.” Rated PG. 82 minutes.

REMINDER ~ FREE Fort Worth Sundance Square 2012 Outdoor Movie Series Starts Tomorrow!

Downtown Fort Worth Sundance Square’s 2012 FREE outdoor movie series, Stars under the Stars, kicks off tomorrow, Thursday, June 7, with the movie Cars. Each Thursday evening in June, the Gateway Parking Lot (bordered by 4th St., Houston, 5th St., and Throckmorton) will convert to an outdoor movie theatre and will feature classic box-office hits on a giant 40′ x 20′ Airscreen. Be sure to bring your picnic blankets or lawn chairs for seating. Or if you like, folding chairs will also be available for a $2 rental fee. Gates open at 7:30pm with the show starting at dusk (around 9pm).

Weekly Movie Night Schedule:

  • June 7 Cars
  • June 14 Secretariat
  • June 21 Hugo
  • June 28 Mission Impossible

“To-go” food items from the Sundance Square restaurants may be brought onto the lot but Sundance Square kindly requests that you do not bring in other outside food, drinks or coolers. Please also leave your pets in the comfort and safety of your home.

Fort Worth’s herd cowboys will present a fun and educational demonstration about the tools, equipment and techniques used during the cattle drive era of the late 1800′s at Fort Worth Cow Camp. This Saturday, bring your child to Home Depot’s Kids Workshop to help them learn a new woodworking skill and build their very own organizer to take home. Fort Worth & Dallas Summer Reading Programs = FREE Books & Other Great Rewards for Kids

With the end of school upon us, Moms and Dads may be wondering how to fill the summer days with fun activities for the kids. One idea ~ incorporate a regular reading program! Not only do you help your children learn to enjoy reading and sharpen their skills, they can earn lots of FREE books and prizes, too (like iPads and computers)!

Following are several summer programs that will reward your kids with GREAT FREEBIES for their reading efforts and most of these kick off this week:

:: City Library Reading Programs
Fort Worth library system, as well as several surrounding community libraries have reading programs that also offer great prizes ~ from FREE Rangers tickets (Arlington) to a Netbook Computer (Fort Worth). In Euless, even adults can win prizes for their reading efforts. Most of these summer library programs have a fun list of events and other reading activities worth checking out as well. Take a look at these city library reading programs:

:: Barnes & Noble Imagination’s Destination
What:
Earn a FREE Book from Barnes & Noble this summer!
How: To get the free book, read any 8 books this summer (the books can be from the library or anywhere else). Print and fill out the B&N reading journal, and then bring the completed form into any Barnes & Noble Bookstore.
Who: B&N’s summer reading program is for kids through 6th grade.
When: May 22 through September 4 or until supplies run out.

:: Pottery Barn Kids Summer Reading Challenge
What: Take part in Pottery Barn’s reading program and qualify for a FREE Book! Go here for more details.
How: You will receive the free book when your child reads and completes one of Pottery Barn Kids’s book lists (here), and then brings the completed form into any Pottery Barn Kids store.  These books can be checked out from the library system, if you prefer, and do not have to be purchased.
Who: Pottery Barn’s reading list is designed for kids who can read independently. The Early Reader list is designed for reading together with younger children.
When: Now through August 31, 2012 or until supplies run out.

:: Half Price Books Feed Your Brain Reading Program
What:
Earn a FREE $5 Back to School Bucks Gift Certificate from Half Price Books. Go here for more details.
How: To get the free gift card, read a total of 300 minutes (they suggest breaking it into 15 minute reading sessions each day). Print and fill out the reading log, and then bring the completed log to any Half Price Books Store.
Who: For kids aged 14 and under.
When:  Back-to-School Bucks coupon valid July 25 to August 31.

:: H.E.Buddy Summer Reading Club
What:
Earn a FREE t-shirt from H.E.B. when your child reads 10 books. Learn more here.
How: To get the free prize, read any 10 books this summer.  Print and fill out the reading journal, and then mail it to the address on the form.
Who: The program does not specify the age, but t-shirts available are sized youth extra small (2-4) to youth extra large (18-20).
When:  Form must be postmarked by October 1.

FREE! Fort Worth Sundance Square 2012 Outdoor Movie Series Starts June 7 ~ New Location!

Downtown Fort Worth Sundance Square’s 2012 FREE outdoor movie series, Stars under the Stars, kicks off next week, Thursday, June 7, with the movie Cars.  Each Thursday evening in June, the Gateway Parking Lot (bordered by 4th St., Houston, 5th St., and Throckmorton) will convert to an outdoor movie theatre and will feature classic box-office hits on a giant 40′ x 20′ Airscreen.  Be sure to bring your picnic blankets or lawn chairs for seating.  Or if you like, folding chairs will also be available for a $2 rental fee.  Gates open at 7:30pm with the show starting at dusk (around 9pm).

  • June 14     Secretariat
  • June 21     Hugo
  • June 28     Mission Impossible

“To-go” food items from the Sundance Square restaurants may be brought onto the lot but Sundance Square kindly requests that you do not bring in other outside food, drinks or coolers.  Please also leave your pets in the comfort and safety of your home.
