FREE! Fort Worth Sundance Square Plaza Outdoor Family Movie Series — Starts Tonight

The annual Sundance Square FREE outdoor movie series, Movie Nights in the Plaza, kicks off tonight with the movie CarsEach Wednesday evening through July, the lovely new Sundance Square Plaza will convert to an outdoor movie theater and will feature classic box-office family hits on a giant outdoor screen.  Movies will start at dusk, around 8:30/9:00 PM.

  • June 11     Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs
  • June 18    Enchanted
  • June 25     Father of the Bride
  • July 2        Ratatouille
  • July 9        Finding Nemo

Bring your own lawn chairs or blanket to be sure you have a comfy spot to sit.  “To-go” food items from the Sundance Square restaurants may be brought to the plaza, but Sundance Square kindly requests that you do not bring other outside food, drinks or coolers.  Please also leave your pets in the comfort and safety of your home.

The USS Fort Worth Commissioning Support Committee is sponsoring a Watch Party in Sundance Square on Saturday, September 22. The state-of-the-art littoral combat ship (LCS) – the first U.S. Navy ship to be named after our city – will be commissioned in Galveston.

Come watch the festivities live on the big screen beginning at 10am on Sundance Square’s Gateway Parking Lot.  Family fun will be provided by Clowning Around Entertainment throughout the morning.  Attendees may purchase food and beverages at Oliver’s Fine Foods, directly across the street at the corner of 4th & Throckmorton.  Chairs will be available for rent or you may bring your own.

Don’t forget ~ the last day of Sundance Square’s 2012 FREE outdoor movie series, Stars under the Stars, takes place Thursday, June 28, with the movie Mission Impossible.  Gateway Parking Lot will be converted to an outdoor movie theatre and a fun spot to enjoy the action-packed feature, Mission Impossible. Old fashioned style hand fans will even be provided (way to go Sundance Square!). Bring your picnic blankets or lawn chairs for seating. Or if you like, folding chairs will also be available for a $2 rental fee. Gates open at 7:30pm with the show starting at dusk (around 9pm).

“To-go” food items from the Sundance Square restaurants may be brought onto the lot but Sundance Square kindly requests that you do not bring in other outside food, drinks or coolers. Please also leave your pets in the comfort and safety of your home.

Main St. Arts Festival is finally here!  This juried art fest showcases more than 200 of the nation’s finest artists and is staged around the streets of downtown (mainly around Sundance Square).  It’s a family friendly event with savory food, performance artists, kids activities, and street performers.

The festival also features over 50 live concerts throughout the weekend, including hundreds of performers in just about every music genre (the lineup even includes a bagpiper)! Some of the talent that caught our eyes this year include award-winning country singer Steve Wariner, local crooner Ricki Derek & the Vegas Six (if you love Frank Sinatra and Tony Bennet, you’ll really like this set) and our personal local favorite R&B /jazz group ~ The Buster Brown Band.

Saturday morning (10:00AM-2:00PM), BRIT is featuring a fun Family Program ~ “Why Are There Plants On That Roof?”  Kids of all ages can participate in hands on activities  and see specimens representing the flora of the BRIT’s living roof. While you are there, enjoy a a 1-hour docent-led tour of BRIT (Botanical Research Institute of Texas) and learn something new about plants (Tour departure times: 10:30AM or 12:30PM).

• Meet a BRIT botanist at the Plant Preservation Studio and learn about BRIT’s unique plant collection.
• Self-guided tours of the LEED Platinum building, BRIT’s pocket prairie, geology wall, braided gardens, and the wetland area.

Main Street Arts Festival Starts Today! Sundance Square in Fort Worth, April 19-22

One of our favorite annual events, Main St. Fort Worth Arts Festival is FINALLY here!  This juried art fest showcases more than 200 of the nation’s finest artists and is staged around the streets of downtown (mainly around Sundance Square).  It’s a family friendly event with savory food, performance artists, kids activities, and street performers.

The festival also features over 50 live concerts throughout the weekend, including hundreds of performers in just about every music genre (the lineup even includes a bagpiper)!  Some of the talent that caught our eyes this year include award-winning country singer Steve Wariner,  local crooner Ricki Derek & the Vegas Six (if you love Frank Sinatra and Tony Bennet, you’ll really like this set) and our personal local favorite R&B /jazz group ~ The Buster Brown Band.

Sundance Square will come alive this weekend with a fun fiesta and celebration
of Latino cultures.  Musicarte de Fort Worth will span 6 blocks of downtown Fort Worth and will feature a juried art show, live music, dance, fabulous food
and more! Your family can also enjoy the Fiesta Kid’s Zone as well as a dance
pavilion where tango, salsa and other Latin dance performances will be featured.

A full day of music on the Sundance Stage  will include headliners:

  • Poncho Sanchez, Friday, 9:00pm
  • Joel Guzman and Sarah Fox, Saturday, 9:00pm

The little town of Roanoke is quickly becoming the rising star of the
Metroplex.  With a complete Downtown renovation, the addition of several
top-rated restaurants, and ~ of course ~ Babe’s Chicken, it’s definitely a great
spot to put on the list of fun places to visit!  And, this weekend is a great time
to make that happen!

This Saturday, the city of Roanoke has planned a family friendly Celebrate
Roanoke
 festival that includes:  all day live music (on 4 stages!), climbing
walls, bounce houses, old-fashioned carnival games,  and various street
entertainment like jugglers, clowns, and old west gun-fight shows.  The
festivities will close with a fabulous fireworks display.

rides, hayrides, pumpkin decorating, a petting zoo, cotton picking, a
stick-pony rodeo and living Scarecrow Contest.  Food will be available for
