

As the end of school approaches, you may be wondering how you can fill
the summer days with fun activities for the kids. One idea ~ incorporate a
regular reading program! Not only do you help your children learn to enjoy
reading and sharpen their skills, they can earn lots of FREE books and prizes, too (like Texas Rangers Tickets)!
Following are several summer programs that will reward your kids with GREAT FREEBIES for their reading efforts:
:: Borders Double Dog Dare Summer Reading Program
What: Take part in Border’s reading program and get 1 FREE Book from Border’s Bookstores! Go here for more details.
How: To get the free book, read any 10 books this summer (these can even be from the library). Print and fill out this form, and then bring the completed form into any Borders, Borders Express, or Waldenbooks.
Who: Border’s Summer reading program is for kids aged 12 and under.
When: June 1 through September 5, 2011 or until supplies run out.
:: Barnes & Noble Imagination Destination Reading Program
What: Earn a FREE Book from Barnes & Noble this summer!

How: To get the free book, read any 8 books this summer (again, they can be from anywhere). Print and fill out the B&N reading journal, and then
bring the completed form into any Barnes & Noble Bookstore.
Who: B&N’s summer reading program is for kids through 6th grade.
When: May 24 through September 6, 2011 or until supplies run out.
:: Half Price Books Feed Your Brain Reading Program
What: Earn a FREE $5 Back to School Bucks Gift Certificate from Half Price Books. Go here for more details.
How: To get the free gift card, read a total of 600 minutes (they suggest breaking it into 15 minute reading sessions each day). Print and fill out the reading log, and then bring the completed log to any Half Price Books Store.
Who: For kids aged 14 and under.
When: Read June 1 to July 31, 2011 and redeem July 25 through August 7, 2011.
:: H.E.Buddy Summer Reading Club
What: Earn a FREE t-shirt from H.E.B. when your child reads 10 books. Learn more here.
How: To get the free prize, read any 10 books this summer. Print and fill out the reading journal, and then mail it to the address on the form.
Who: The program does not specify the age, but t-shirts available are sized youth extra small (2-4) to youth extra large (18-20).
When: Form must be postmarked by October 1.
:: City Library Reading Programs
Fort Worth library system, as well as several surrounding community libraries have reading programs that also offer great prizes ~ from FREE Rangers tickets (Arlington) to a Netbook Computer (Fort Worth). In Denton, adults can even win prizes for their reading efforts. Most of these summer library programs have a fun list of events and other reading activities worth checking out as well.
