Take a musical journey from the 20th century roots of Jazz to the diverse sounds of the present with Fort Worth Library’s annual Third Thursday Jazz Series. Featuring an outstanding list of nationally and locally known talent, the monthly lineup offers everything from swing jazz to the blues.  All concerts are FREE and open to the public.

July’s Third Thursday Jazz Series Features the Texas Gypsies ~ Thursday, July 18, 6:30PM
Gypsy jazz meets Texas swing for an energetic, fun-filled romp down the streets of a bygone era. The Texas Gypsies are a collection of well seasoned players comprised of Grammy winners and musicians who have backed many of today’s top performers including The Jacksons, Paul McCartney, Ray Charles, Ella Fitzgerald, Wynton Marsalis, Tony Bennett, Barbara Mandrell, Blues Brothers and more!

Swingmusic.net says “The group blends elements of traditional small group Swing, Gypsy Jazz and Western Swing into a tightly woven fabric of 21st Century sophistication and jumpin, thumpin entertainment.”

  • July 25: Metro Praise Youth Orchestra. Texas all-state alumni perform big band classics from the likes of Stan Kenton, Maynard Ferguson and Count Basie.
  • August 15: Duane Durrett Quartet.  Performing the music of pianists and composers Dave Brubeck and Bill Evans and featuring Johnny Case, Brad Leali and Lou Harlas.
  • September 19: Paul Unger Septet. Performing the music of Charles Mingus, featuring selections from the groundbreaking 1959 recording “Ah Um.”

Featuring an outstanding list of nationally and locally known talent, the monthly lineup offers everything from swing jazz to the blues.  All concerts are FREE and open to the public.

The Third Thursday Jazz Series continues with the Adonis Rose  Quintet ~ Thursday, August 16, 6:30PM
Adonis Rose got his first drum set when he was 2 years old and was touring by age 17. Since that time, he has won a Grammy Award, and performed and recorded with the Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra, Harry Connick Jr., Wynton Marsalis and Dr. John, to name but a few.  The fourth installment in the Thursday jazz series, the Adonis Rose Quintet, will also feature trumpeter Pete Clagett, saxophonist Chris Milyo, bassist Young Heo and pianist Stefan Karlsson.

The Thursday jazz series continues with The Incredible Guitar Style of Wes Montgomery. During his brief life, Wes Montgomery left a recording legacy that has inspired and guided the likes of such diverse players as Pat Martino, Stevie Ray Vaughn and Jimi Hendrix. Thursday’s evening of jazz will featuring the incomparable guitarist James Shannon, backed by legendary Fort Worth jazz pianist Johnny Case, bassist James Gilyard and drummer Duane Durrett. Saxophonist Karl Lampman will complete the quintet.

FREE Jazz in June Concerts in Keller ~ Thursdays

The Keller Public Arts Program is pleased to present its fourth annual Jazz in June Concert Series, returning to the front lawn of Keller Town Hall at 7:30 p.m., Thursday evenings. The concerts are free and open to audiences of all ages. You are welcome to bring lawn chairs, blankets, picnic dinners, leashed pets, and snacks and drinks to enjoy (no glass please).

All Jazzed Up and Someplace to Go
Take a musical journey from the 20th century roots of Jazz to the diverse sounds of the present with the Fort Worth Library’s Third Thursday Jazz Series. This five-concert series features an outstanding list of nationally and locally known talent and is FREE and open to the public. The monthly lineup offers everything from swing jazz to the blues and will include some amazing artists ~ like jazz saxophonist Brad Leali (former lead for the Harry Connick, Jr Orchestra) and grammy-award winning trombonist Robin Eubanks (collaborated with a variety of notable musicians such as Art Blakey, Barbra Streisand, The Rolling Stones and Talking Heads).

Brad Leali, Alto Saxophonist, Kicks Off The Series ~ May 17
The inauguration of the 2012 series (Thursday, May 17, 6:30PM)  showcases Grammy nominated Brad Leali, former lead alto saxophonist for the Harry Connick, Jr Orchestra and director of the Count Basie orchestra. Leali’s quintet will feature the music of “The Bebop Revolution,” including toe-tapping tunes from Charlie Parker and Dizzie Gillespie.  Leali has backed up a lengthy list of artists including Stevie Wonder, Bruce Springsteen, John Legend, Mary J. Blige, Herbie Hancock, Fantasia, Billy Joel, Kid Rock, Yolanda Adams, and Brian McKnight.  He has been one of the top jazz musicians in New York City and has made numerous television appearances including The Today Show, Jay Leno Tonight Show, and Arsenio Hall.

The Brad Leali quintet performance will also feature trumpeter Ephraim Owens, Paul Unger on bass, pianist Michael Palma, and Andrew Griffith on drums.

Paul Unger has performed with such artists as Kevin Eubanks, Bobby Shew, Bob Newhart, Bernadette Peters, Jay Clayton and Andrea Bocelli.

This seven-concert series features an outstanding list of nationally and locally known talent and is FREE and open to the public. The monthly lineup includes jazz guitarist Jerry Hahn, acclaimed by Rolling Stone Magazine; Paul Unger who has performed with such artists as Kevin Eubanks, Bob Newhart, Bernadette Peters, and Andrea Bocelli; as well as other fantastic jazz artists that will feature everything from swing jazz to Count Basie blues.

The Jerry Hahn Quartet ~ Featured May 19th.
The series continues this Thursday, May 19 and features Jerry Hahn and his quartet. One of the most celebrated guitarists of his generation, Hahn is an innovative musician who has made many contributions to the fusion movement. Rolling Stone calls this internationally known performer “One of the best jazz guitarists in the country.”

If you are a jazz fan, then you will want to check out Fort Worth’s 2010 Third
Thursday Jazz Series,
sponsored by the Central Library and the City of Fort
Worth. This concert series features an outstanding list of nationally and
locally known talent and is FREE and open to the public. See the monthly
line up of artists for the rest of the summer season below.  

:: Grammy nominee, Mack Goldsbury will be featured Thursday.
This month’s Thursday (July 15) lineup highlights Tenor Saxophonist,
Mack Goldsbury and his amazing quartet.  He has received two Grammy
Award nominations and performed in sessions with music legends Stevie
Wonder, John Scofield, Joe Lovano, Tony Bennett and even Cher!   

This show promises to be a swinging romp through jazz classics – you
won’t want to miss it!

:: Internationally known Joe Carter will be featured Thursday.
This month’s Thursday (June 17) lineup includes recording artists, the
Joe Carter Jazz Quartet, a favorite of the Brazilian jazz scene.
Guitarist Joe Carter has performed around the world including New York
City, Trossingen/Germany, Paris/France, many venues in Brazil, and
even India.  Jazz Hot Magazine in France, describes Joe Carter as
having a “Modem guitar repertoire displaying remarkable technique
and imagination.”  

Thursday’s concert will feature the music of Thelonious Monk, one of
the most important figures in the history of jazz.

Hey Fort Worth Jazz Fans ~ A FREE Monthly Jazz Series Starts Thursday (3/18)!

  

:: All Jazzed Up and Someplace to Go
If you are a jazz fan, then you will want to check out Fort Worth’s new Third Thursday Jazz Series, sponsored by the Central Library and the City of Fort Worth.  

This six-concert series features an outstanding list of nationally and locally known talent and is FREE and open to the public. The monthly lineup includes vocalist Jay Clayton, who has performed at New York’s Lincoln Center; guitarist Dan Faehnle, who has toured with Diana Krall; and saxophonist Mack Goldsbury, who has twice been nominated for a Grammy Award.  

:: Paul Unger Sextet kicks off the Thursday Series.
The series kicks off  March 18 with the Paul Unger Sextet and will feature a complete performance of Miles Davis’ legendary album, Kind of Blue, the biggest selling jazz recording of all time.  The Miles Davis tribute band is led by bassist Paul Unger who has performed with such artists as Kevin Eubanks, Bobby Shew, Bob Newhart, Bernadette Peters, Jay Clayton and Andrea Bocelli. He also composed the soundtrack for the recently released film, Seventy-8.
