The Modern Art Museum ~ Fort Worth Kids Drawing Program

FREE Drawing From the Collection classes for kids:  Two sessions of this free program for children are offered, one for ages 5 to 8 and one for ages 9 to 12. Each session is led by an artist who takes participants through informal drawing exercises that relate to works in the Modern’s galleries. Children under the age of six must be accompanied by an adult during the program. Bring a sketchbook and pencils. Attendance is limited; early arrival is encouraged. A sign-up sheet is located at the information desk.

FREE Drawing From the Collection class for adults:  Learn with local artists as they lead free, informal basic drawing classes in the galleries. This class is open to adults at all skill levels. Workshops teach children do-it-yourself skills, tool safety and instill a sense of pride and accomplishment.  All kids get to keep their craft, receive a FREE certificate of achievement, a Workshop Apron, and a commemorative pin.  All workshops are free, but you should probably show up early to insure you have a kit for your little ones.

JFK in Fort Worth ~ A Lasting Impression

On November 22, 1963, President John F. Kennedy delivered the final two speeches of his life to audiences in Fort Worth. He spoke about the nation’s international leadership and its ambitions to explore outer space. He also praised Fort Worth’s role in the nation’s history.

To commemorate the 50th anniversary of President John F. Kennedy’s death, the Fort Worth Library presents JFK in Fort Worth: A Lasting Impression, a special exhibit documenting Kennedy’s visit to Fort Worth, Lee Harvey Oswald’s connection to the city and the planning and design of the JFK Tribute.  Docent led tours are offered 2 – 4 pm on Saturdays in November.

Note that many of these discounts extend beyond Veterans Day, November 11th and some are even offered year round. Eat FREE at Applebee’s ~ November 11
Military veterans and active-duty service members will be able to eat for free at any Applebee’s across the U.S. on Veterans Day, November 11. FREE Entree at BJ’s Restaurant ~ November 11 & 12
Veterans and those on active military duty, visit your local BJ’s Restaurant and Brewhouse  on November 11 & 12 to get a FREE lunch entree or a one-topping mini or individual pizza for dinner.

FREE Burger at Champps Americana ~ November 11
Champps is celebrating our Veterans and Active Military by providing a FREE Champps Cheeseburger and Fries meal on November 11th. Proof of military service is required and is for dine-in only at participating  locations. Go here to learn more.

Chilis is offering a FREE meal from a special menu to all veterans and active duty personnel on Veterans Day. This offer is available on November 11 at  participating Chili’s in the U.S. only. FREE Pancakes at Denny’s ~ November 11
Denny’s is giving away a FREE all you can eat pancake breakfast to all active, retirees, and veterans with a valid military ID or proof of military service, from 6am – 2pm on Monday, November 11.  Go here to learn more.

Use your military ID at any Home Depot or Lowes and receive a 10% discount on your purchases. The 10% military discount is available to: Active-duty military members, National Guard and Reserve members, retirees, honorably discharged veterans and immediate family members of all those groups. Customers requesting a discount must be able to show a valid military ID card or other proof of military service.

FREE Wedding Gown for Military Brides!
I LOVE this freebie ~ so fantastic on so many levels!! Select stores across the U.S. are offering military brides FREE wedding gowns through the non-profit group, Brides Across America. FREE Entrance Day at U.S. National Parks ~ November 9-11
To honor America’s service men and women, the U.S. National Parks will not charge entrance fees Veterans Day Weekend. Visitors to public recreation lands managed by the National Park Service, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, Bureau of Land Management and Bureau of Reclamation are invited to take a day to honor and reflect on what our service men and women have done to maintain our freedom and keep peace around the world. Pay tribute to the men and women who have served in the service of our country at the 2013 Veterans Day parade in Fort Worth. The parade starts at La Grave Field, winds through downtown and then ends back at the Cat’s home field. One of the best places to watch the parade is between Belknap and Fifth streets.
