The Modern Art Museum ~ Fort Worth Kids Drawing Program

FREE Drawing From the Collection classes for kids:  Two sessions of this free program for children are offered, one for ages 5 to 8 and one for ages 9 to 12. Each session is led by an artist who takes participants through informal drawing exercises that relate to works in the Modern’s galleries. Children under the age of six must be accompanied by an adult during the program. Bring a sketchbook and pencils. Attendance is limited; early arrival is encouraged. A sign-up sheet is located at the information desk.

FREE Drawing From the Collection class for adults:  Learn with local artists as they lead free, informal basic drawing classes in the galleries. This class is open to adults at all skill levels. Bring a sketchbook and pencils. Registration is not required, but a sign-in sheet is available at the information desk

Bank of America’s 2014 national program, Museums On Us offers FREE admission, the first full weekend of every month, to 150+ participating museums throughout the country. In DFW, this FREE Admission program takes place this weekend at the Fort Worth Museum of Science and History and in Dallas at The Perot Museum of Nature & Science.

Saturday, January 4, 2014

This Saturday, bring your child to Home Depot’s Kids Workshop to help them learn a new woodworking skill and build their very own 2014 calendar project to take home. Workshops teach children do-it-yourself skills, tool safety and instill a sense of pride and accomplishment.  All kids get to keep their craft, receive a FREE certificate of achievement, a Workshop Apron, and a commemorative pin.  All workshops are free, but you should probably show up early to insure you have a kit for your little ones.

First Sunday Film Club Movie Showing

Join the Fort Worth Central Library for a free showing of the film On Valentines Day featuring Matthew Broderick on Sunday, January 5th. This monthly event is part of the First Sunday Film Series which presents award-winning movies in a wide range of genres, including drama, action, comedy and science fiction. Films will be shown on the large screen of the library’s movie theater.

About the movie: Elizabeth defies her wealthy parents by running off and marrying a young man of humble prospects, and her parents have not spoken to her since – even though the couple lives in a rooming house nearby, they are struggling financially, and she is pregnant. The story of unselfish love between a man and a woman and the abiding love within a family, this American classic explores the enduring themes of human existence. PG, 106 mins.

Hear classic western music come to life as Cowtown Opry members perform a free music exhibition on the steps of the Livestock Exchange building. This live family friendly music event will take place every Sunday and will feature a different theme each week ~ Western Gospel music will be featured on the 5th Sunday of the month.
