FREE Dessert Decorating Workshop at the Amon Carter Museum — Saturday, November 19

‘Tis the season to decorate baked goods! Learn a few tips and tricks from museum educator and former America’s Test Kitchen recipe tester Mary Le during this hands-on dessert decorating session. Before decorating, draw inspiration from the Amon Carter’s collection during an interactive tour.

FREE Leatherworking Craft Workshop at the Amon Carter Museum ~ Saturday, May 28

The Amon Carter Museum is offering a FREE hands-on craft session you don’t want to miss! Be inspired by the art of Frederic Remington and Charles M. Russell during an interactive tour followed by a demonstration with local leatherworking expert Scott Horn from Oil and Cotton. Enjoy refreshments as you learn more about the art of leatherworking and create your own set of leather coasters.

The Amon Carter Museum of American Art is offering a fun and FREE event packed with activities for all ages — Art in the Dark, Thursday, February 18.  Everyone is invited to experience the Amon Carter at night with art making, exhibit tours, music, films, interactive demonstrations, and more inspired by the special exhibition American Epics: Thomas Hart Benton and Hollywood.

Art Making 5:30–9:30 p.m.
Decorate a popcorn tin!
Light up the night with a film-themed votive!

Art Search 5:30–9:30 p.m.
Explore the galleries with a fun art search. Pick up a question sheet (both adult and family versions are available), complete the search, and claim your prize!

Hollywood Costume Contest
Dress up as your favorite movie character and have the chance to win a prize!
Registration for 12 years and under: 5:30–6:15 p.m.
Registration for 13 years and up: 5:30–8:30 p.m.
For safety purposes, no masks or weapons please.

Hollywood Hits with the David Brehm Trio 5:30–9:30 p.m.
Listen to Hollywood film hits played by the David Brehm Trio. Writer, producer, and guitarist David L. Brehm has developed a unique guitar style over the years. David will often loop his own rhythm guitar playing so he can improvise during the solo sections of certain songs. With a repertoire that includes original tunes, as well as an extensive jazz, pop, and Latin catalog, David Brehm delivers an unforgettable musical experience.

Enjoy the melodic sounds of the xylophone during an ongoing performance by local percussionist Eric Martin.

Food Design (2010) takes a look at the secret chambers of a major manufacturer of food, where designers and scientists are defining tomorrow’s favorite culinary treat. It shows how form, color, smell, consistency, the sounds made during eating, manufacturing technique, history, and stories are all aspects of food and eating that both influence food design and are created by it. This film includes subtitles.

Join the Amon Carter’s professional gallery teachers to discover works of art, share your observations, and get creative in the galleries. This tour is best for children ages 12 and under with their adult companions.

Sessions begin at 6, 7, and 8 p.m.
Mind your manners and learn the basics of dining etiquette and the history behind it during this fun demonstration with Etiquette and Protocol Consultant Anne Paup.

Cheese Tastings with Elizabeth Northern, Owner of Magnolia Cheese Company
Tastings begin at 6:30, 7:30, and 8:30 p.m.
Taste and learn about unique local cheeses during this delectable presentation with cheesemonger Elizabeth Northern, proprietor of Magnolia Cheese Company in Fort Worth’s Near Southside neighborhood.

Vertigo at Amon Carter Museum

Pack a picnic, grab some friends, and watch Alfred Hitchcock’s Vertigo (1958; PG) on the Amon Carter Museum lawn ~ the first film in their FREE Sunset Cinema outdoor film series. Lawn chairs, blankets, and coolers are welcome (lawn only). However, no glass bottles, alcohol, or pets please. The lawn opens at 6 p.m. Come early and enjoy a tour of the museum from 7 to 7:45 p.m. The film starts at 8:30 p.m.  No reservations are required.

FREE Family Movie At The Amon Carter Museum ~ The Great Muppet Caper

The Amon Carter Museum of American Art is hosting a fun family movie event, Sunset Cinema: The Great Muppet Caper Thursday evening, July 25th on the museum’s lawn.  Grab a bite to eat at the Central Market and Gypsy Scoops food trucks.  Lawn chairs, blankets, and coolers are welcome (though, no alcohol, glass bottles, or pets, please). You can even come early and enjoy a tour of the museum before the film.

FREE Amon Carter Museum Family Storytime ~ Fun Summer Idea!

Here is another fun and FREE event to add to your summer calendar ~ The Amon Carter Museum will be hosting Storytime, a free public program for young children and their families on Wednesdays in June and July (except July 4), from 10:30–11:30 a.m.

This interactive event will bring the museum’s artworks to life through engaging children’s stories and related activities that focus on exploring a different color each week. After the story reading, kids will be able to create their own work of art while enjoying cookies and lemonade! Families are even encouraged to come dressed in that day’s featured color for even more fun.

 

The dates and themes are:

  • June 6 – Rockin’ Red
  • June 13 – Outrageous Orange
  • June 20 – Hello Yellow
  • June 27 – Going Green
  • July 11 – True Blue
  • July 18 – Incredible Indigo
  • July 25 – Very, Very Violet

The Amon Carter museum is offering four days of fun with their Spend Spring Break at the Amon Carter ~ FREE Family Fun Week event.  This week of art and creativity starts tomorrow, March 13 and runs daily through Friday (10:30 a.m. to noon).  Bring the whole family to get to know four amazing American artists through art exploration and art-making. Each day will feature a different artist, artworks, and activities. Free refreshments will be provided.

  • Tuesday’s featured artist  – Georgia O’Keeffe
  • Wednesday’s featured artist – John Singer Sargent
  • Thursday’s featured artist – Stuart Davis
  • Friday’s featured artist – Ben Shahn

FREE Art Programs at the Amon Carter Museum in January

The Amon Carter Museum of American Art is excited to present two FREE programs at the end of January ~ a fun drawing workshop for adults and a tour for moms with stroller-aged children offer something for everyone.

Here are the details:

Draw ‘til Dusk ~ Thursday, January 26 from 6–7:30 p.m.
Try your hand at still-life drawing, and discuss still-life paintings and drawings from the Amon Carter’s collection. This adult workshop will be led by local art professor, Brett Dyer. Drawing boards, pencils, and paper will be provided; you are also welcome to bring your own sketchbooks. No drawing experience necessary and no reservations are required.  Learn more here.

New Parents Tour ~ Friday, January 27 from 10:30–11:30 a.m.
