Cowtown Farmers Market, Fort Worth’s producer-only farmers market, puts local food (grown within 150 miles of Fort Worth) in the spotlight at its annual festival held on Saturday.  Besides fresh produce, you can score lots of other goodies like fresh bread, goat milk cheese, hot tamales and more.  Insiders Tip:  Get there early for best choices.

Festivities will include cooking demos by the Culinary School of Fort Worth, Cookbook signing by Chef Jon Bonnell of Bonnell’s restaurant, tasting booths, prize drawings, live music, balloons for the kids, and more.

:: 8th Annual Modern Dance Festival at the Modern
Now Through
July 24, 2011

The 8th annual Modern Dance Festival at The Modern Art Museum in Fort Worth continues  with Aerial dance company Project IN Motion (Las Cruces, New Mexico). They will perform The Palace at Night near the reflecting pond at the museum. Palace at Night is a vignette of five aerial and terrestrial dance pieces choreographed using an elaborate sculptural apparatus where dancers will climb and twist in bungees and hammocks.

A variety of other festival events are scheduled through July 24 and include lectures, site-specific performances, and films from the Dance On Camera festival of New York City.

The Parker County Peach Festival, hosted in Weatherford Texas, is a local tradition that has been fun for families for many years. Alamo Drafthouse and Texas Monthly Magazine join forces to celebrate the 10 best films in the Lone Star State and screen them in the iconic locations where they were filmed.  Red River, the John Wayne flick that tells the story of Texas cattle drivers as they make the treacherous journey up the Chisholm Trail, will be shown in the Stockyards Friday evening as part of this travelling movie series.

Before the film starts, Legends of Texas, Ft. Worth’s award-winning gunfighters and historical reinactors will perform a show plus there will be a special Q&A with “The Duke.” Be sure bring your own seating and arrive early for good spot. Admission is free and first come, first serve.

ENERGY STAR Appliance & Home Improvement Tax Exemption Holiday for Texas ~ May 28-30

Good News! During Memorial Day weekend, Texas shoppers get a break from
sales tax on purchases of some appliances and energy-efficient products like refrigerators and clothes washers ~ even lightbulbs!  This is a great way to get an extra “discount” and save on future energy costs if you are in the market for any of these items.

The products qualifying for the tax exemption are:

  • Refrigerators priced at $2,000 or less (college dorm-sized refrigerators even qualify)!
  • Ceiling fans
  • Incandescent and fluorescent light bulbs
  • Clothes washers
  • Dishwashers
  • Dehumidifiers
  • Energy Star Labeled Programmable thermostats
  • Air conditioners priced at $6,000 or less

The 2011 sales tax holiday begins on Saturday, May 28, and ends
on Monday, May 30 (Memorial Day Weekend).

                 ENERGY STAR logo

Qualifying products will need to display the ENERGY STAR logo. The discount can also apply to delivery and installation fees and  there is  no limit on the number of qualifying items one can purchase during this sales tax holiday.
