FREE! Fort Worth Sundance Square Plaza Outdoor Family Movie Series — Starts Tonight

The annual Sundance Square FREE outdoor movie series, Movie Nights in the Plaza, kicks off tonight with the movie CarsEach Wednesday evening through July, the lovely new Sundance Square Plaza will convert to an outdoor movie theater and will feature classic box-office family hits on a giant outdoor screen.  Movies will start at dusk, around 8:30/9:00 PM.

Weekly Movie Night Schedule:

  • June 11     Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs
  • June 18    Enchanted
  • June 25     Father of the Bride
  • July 2        Ratatouille
  • July 9        Finding Nemo

Bring your own lawn chairs or blanket to be sure you have a comfy spot to sit.  “To-go” food items from the Sundance Square restaurants may be brought to the plaza, but Sundance Square kindly requests that you do not bring other outside food, drinks or coolers.  Please also leave your pets in the comfort and safety of your home.

Kick off your summer with a weekend filled with free music under the stars! The third annual Downtown Arlington Center Stage Music Festival runs May 23-25 with a true Texas original, Bob Schneider; Texas blues guitar legend, Jimmie Vaughan; and more. Opening acts will perform before each headliner, plus the Levitt will be surrounded by food and art vendors — the perfect way to start the summer!

Tip:  Be sure to bring along a lawn chair or blanket to comfortably enjoy the outdoor entertainment. Snacks or a picnic dinner, and beverages are allowed, but no glass containers please.

See the skies light up over Lake Grapevine every Friday at the Summer Blast Fireworks Show starting at 9:30 p.m. Beginning Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day weekend, this weekly show can be viewed on the rooftop of the parking garage at Gaylord Texan Resort, as well as at parks around Lake Grapevine. Blue Star Museums FREE for Military

Memorial Day kicks off the fifth year of Blue Star Museums, the military appreciation program that connects military families with the cultural resources in their communities.  Active duty military and their families can get FREE admission to over 2,000 museums located around the country, thanks to the Blue Star Museums initiative.  The program runs from Memorial Day, May 26  through Labor Day, September 1

P.S.  To get the free admission, you will need to show your military ID.  The free offer is valid for the military ID holder plus up to five family members.  Spouses of deployed military are eligible to take part as well.  Go here for helpful information.

Frugal shopping tip: This is a great spot to tap into local experts’ knowledge about gardening with herbs, as well as find a vast selection of native plants & herbs at great prices.  My favorite finds have been local artisan made soap created from all natural ingredients ($1 to $2 a bar) and clean burning soy candles scented with essential oils.

Just a reminder that this offer for free credit monitoring from Target ends today (April 23).  We strongly recommend you take advantage of this if you haven’t done so already.

Target Free Credit Monitoring and Identity Theft Protection

As you have likely heard by now, there was a breach in personal data and credit/debit card information that occurred at Target stores from Thanksgiving to mid-December, potentially impacting 40 million customers.

In response to the breach, Target has offered to provide 1-year of FREE credit monitoring plus a FREE credit report, daily credit monitoring, identity theft insurance where available, and access to personalized assistance.

Target suggests that guests who sign up for free credit monitoring should continue to monitor their accounts and report any unusual or suspicious activity to their bank.

Guests have until April 23, 2014 to sign up for their FREE year of credit monitoring. Even if you don’t think your information was compromised, you may want to sign up to be on the safe side.

Fort Worth Library Jerry Pinkney Signing

The Fort Worth Library and the African American Museum of Dallas will present an evening with award‐winning illustrator Jerry Pinkney — Thursday, April 24 at 6 p.m. at the Ella Mae Shamblee Branch Library.  A free reception and book signing will follow a discussion with Pinkney about his career, books, and approach to illustration. Books will be available for purchase at the event.

One of our favorite annual events, Main St. Fort Worth Arts Festival is finally here! This juried art fest showcases over 200 of the nation’s finest artists and is staged around the streets of downtown (with the new Sundance Square Plaza acting as the main hub). The festival also features over 300 performances throughout the weekend, including live concerts in just about every music genre — from R&B to country to jazz.  Even the Fort Worth Symphony will be performing (more info below).

It’s a family friendly event with an enormous variety of amazing art, savory food, performance artists, kids activities, and street performers.
