Join your family and friends at this weekends FREE concerts at the Levitt Pavilion in Arlington – part of Levitt Pavilion’s 50 nights of free music, dance and performing arts under the stars. The entertainment schedule includes a wide span of music genres including jazz, pop, latin, country and even special events just for kids. The Friday evening concert (June 3) features Soul Track Mind – ‘60s and ‘70s era soul and R&B with flares of jazz, blues, funk and dance rhythms

FREE! Fort Worth Sundance Square 2011 Outdoor Movie Series Starts Tomorrow ~ Thursday, June 2

Downtown Fort Worth Sundance Square’s 2011 FREE outdoor movie series, Stars under the Stars, kicks off tomorrow evening (June 2) with Indiana Jones and Raiders of the Lost Ark. Each Thursday evening in June, the Chisholm Trail Parking Lot will convert to an outdoor movie theatre and will feature classic box-office hits on a giant 40′ x 20′ Airscreen. Be sure to bring your picnic blankets or lawn chairs for seating. Or if you like, folding chairs will also be available for a $2 rental fee. Gates open at 8pm with kids activities including a rock-climbing wall.

Weekly Movie Night Schedule:

June 2 Indiana Jones and Raiders of the Lost Ark
June 9 Julie & Julia
June 16 Despicable Me
June 23 The Bucket List
June 30 Seabiscuit

Snack food will be available for purchase. Do note that pets, outside food, drinks and coolers are not allowed. Remember, too, parking is FREE after 5 p.m. at all Sundance Square parking lots and garages.

Fort Worth library system, as well as several surrounding community libraries have reading programs that also offer great prizes ~ from FREE Rangers tickets (Arlington) to a Netbook Computer (Fort Worth). In Denton, adults can even win prizes for their reading efforts. Most of these summer library programs have a fun list of events and other reading activities worth checking out as well. ENERGY STAR Appliance & Home Improvement Tax Exemption Holiday for Texas ~ May 28-30

Please pass along to anyone in the home improvement market…

Good News! During Memorial Day weekend, Texas shoppers get a break from
sales tax on purchases of some appliances and energy-efficient products like refrigerators and clothes washers ~ even lightbulbs! This is a great way to get an extra “discount” and save on future energy costs if you are in the market for any of these items.

The products qualifying for the tax exemption are:

Refrigerators priced at $2,000 or less (college dorm-sized refrigerators even qualify)!
Ceiling fans
Incandescent and fluorescent light bulbs
Clothes washers
Dishwashers
Dehumidifiers
Energy Star Labeled Programmable thermostats
Air conditioners priced at $6,000 or less

The 2011 sales tax holiday begins on Saturday, May 28, and ends
on Monday, May 30 (Memorial Day Weekend).

Qualifying products will need to display the ENERGY STAR logo. The discount can also apply to delivery and installation fees and there is no limit on the number of qualifying items one can purchase during this sales tax holiday.

2011 Cheap Summer Family Movies Roundup – Beat the Heat AND High Movie Prices!

Get out of the summer heat and have some fun with the kids with these cheap (or FREE!) Fort Worth area summer movie series.
There are lots of family friendly movies to choose from including Pirates Who Don’t Do Anything, Charlotte’s Web, Despicable Me, and many more! Following is a roundup of local kids movies series to check out:

:: HARKINS SUMMER MOVIE FUN
Harkins Theatres in Southlake is bringing back its 10-week Summer Movie Fun Program, Monday Through Friday, from June 6 through August 12, 9:45AM. It’s as low as 50 cents a movie ($5 for 10 movies or $2 for individual tickets). Find details and a list of scheduled movies at harkinstheatres.com.

:: CINEMARK/TINSELTOWN SUMMER MOVIE CLUBHOUSE
The Cinemark Summer Movie Clubhouse is back for summer 2011! The weekly morning movies start in June, but you can purchase your pass in advance ($5 for 10 movies or $1 at the door). Find details and a list of participating theaters at Cinemark’s website (here).

:: REGAL THEATRES SUMMER MOVIE EXPRESS
Regal theatres is offering nine weeks (June 7 to August 3) of fun-filled movies for kids and parents, for $1/person! There are 18 movies to choose from, showing at 10AM each Tuesday and Wednesday. Tickets are available at the box office on the day of the show and are first-come, first-served seating. Studio Movie Grill’s Summer Children’s Series will run from May 30 through Aug. 19 and will feature 11 different movies. In addition, the theater will continue its occasional free screenings for kids with special needs, sponsored by Variety the Children’s Charity (love that they do this!!). All Jazzed Up and Someplace to Go
If you are a jazz fan, then you will want to check out this year’s Third Thursday Jazz Series, sponsored by the Fort Worth Jazz Society.

This seven-concert series features an outstanding list of nationally and locally known talent and is FREE and open to the public. The monthly lineup includes jazz guitarist Jerry Hahn, acclaimed by Rolling Stone Magazine; Paul Unger who has performed with such artists as Kevin Eubanks, Bob Newhart, Bernadette Peters, and Andrea Bocelli; as well as other fantastic jazz artists that will feature everything from swing jazz to Count Basie blues.

The Jerry Hahn Quartet ~ Featured May 19th.
The series continues this Thursday, May 19 and features Jerry Hahn and his quartet. One of the most celebrated guitarists of his generation, Hahn is an innovative musician who has made many contributions to the fusion movement. Rolling Stone calls this internationally known performer “One of the best jazz guitarists in the country.”

July 21: Duane Durrett Quintet. Featuring Victor Cager and Mack Goldsbury, this quintet will perform the songs of the great duo John Coltrane and Johnny Hartman.
August 18: Kristin Korb Trio. This acclaimed singer and bassist will take a fresh look at the great American songbook.
September 15: Fred Hersch Trio. The featured act of our series, Down Beat magazine calls Hersch a “brilliant composer and pianist.”
October 20: Paul Unger Septet. Unger’s group will perform “Pathway to Fusion,” the music of Miles Davis from the ’60s and ’70s.
