   June 15-17, 2012

Join your family and friends at this weekend’s FREE concerts at the Levitt Pavilion in Arlington – part of their packed summer series of free music, dance and performing arts under the stars. The Friday evening concert (June 15) headlines The Trishas, Saturday (June 16) features Rodney Parker & 50 Peso Reward, and Sunday (June 17) features soul jazz artist, Sierra Leone’s Refugee All Stars (participated in the U2 tribute album In the Name of Love: Africa Celebrates U2 and has a great background story ~read more here).

Be sure to bring along a lawn chair or blanket to enjoy the outdoor entertainment. Snacks or a picnic dinner, and beverages are allowed, but no glass containers, please.

Friday nights over Grapevine Lake will sparkle with spectacular fireworks each Friday through the summer, now through Labor day. If you want to add some extra fun to your family evening, plan to view the fireworks from the Gaylord Texan Resort parking garage roof ~ a great viewing platform. They will have a music DJ, games for kids, giveaways, and food and beverages for purchase.

Denton Airport summons aircraft enthusiasts and casual spectators alike for their Airshow’s high-flying feats and ground-docked aircraft displays. This year’s schedule treats attendees to a full day of performances by professional pilots, including the Texas Twisters and a U.S. Marine Corps AV-8B Harrier II demonstration.  On the ground, aircraft displays include an F/A-18F Super Hornet, an A-10C Thunderbolt II, a P-40 Warhawk, and more than 30 others. The family-friendly airshow also features a children’s pavilion, craft vendors, and food concessions in a festival atmosphere.

Join the Fort Worth Central Library for a free showing of the fun children’s movie Yogi Bear on Saturday, June 9. This event is part of the Central Library’s Second Saturday Film Series which runs monthly family friendly movies through the end of the year.

About the movie: The pic-a-nic-basket-stealing-bear joins forces with Boo-Boo and their old nemesis, Ranger Smith, in an attempt to save Jellystone Park from closing and, in the process, prove that our hero really is “smarter than the average bear.” Rated PG. 82 minutes.
