City of Fort Worth Rain Barrel Promotion ~ FANTASTIC DEAL!

Bookmark and Share

Rain Barrel Promotion City of Fort Worth

The City of Fort Worth has partnered with Rain Water Solutions to offer 50-gallon, rain barrels for just $58 We double checked the average prices of similar rain barrels and found this to be a great deal (other versions start at about $100 and go up from there).

New to rain barrel water harvesting?
It’s a pretty simple concept. Water is conserved by capturing rainwater from your house rooftop (your home’s gutter downspout connects to the rain barrel) ~ the harvested water can be used for gardening, lawn irrigation and foundation protection.  Learn more about rain barrel usage and conservation, here.

Here’s how to take advantage of the city’s promotion:

With the drought still in swing across our state, this is a really timely promotion (thanks Fort Worth for your efforts to save our water supply!).

On a personal note:   My husband, who ~ let’s just say ~ is not gentle on his laptop bags (understatement of the year!), has carried a version of this Swissgear backpack for his laptop the last couple of years.  With his extensive plane travel and toting to the office, he has given it the “torture test” (and I do mean torture!).  He has been through A LOT of laptop bags over the years, and this one has not only survived him, it still looks barely used after its 2 years of abuse.  I can highly recommend this laptop backpack brand, especially at this hard-to-beat price!

:: FREE ~ Cosmic Show Tonight: FREE & Live From Your
Backyard! (a.k.a. The Perseid Meteor Shower)

Take in the Perseid Meteor Shower that will sparkle the big Texas sky tonight, with a star-gazing party from the comfort of your own backyard (or for the best view, NASA recommends heading to the edge of town to get away from the city lights). The Perseids Shower is one of the best meteor showers to observe every year in August.  It produces up to 60-100 shooting stars per hour at the peak viewing times which take place this weekend.

Details, details
What: Learn more about viewing the Perseids meteor show here. You will be able to see the Perseids without aid of a telescope ~ but perhaps not without coffee since the best viewing takes place between 10:00pm and the wee hours of the morning (yawn).
Where: From the comfort of your own backyard OR even better, head to the outskirts of town, away from city lights for best Perseids viewing. Look about half way up the sky facing northeast.
When: View the peak of the shooting star meteor show Friday to Sunday, August 10 to 12, between 10:00pm-4:00am. However, NASA indicates that the best time to look is during the dark hours right before dawn. If interrupting your sleep this weekend is not in the plans ~ not to worry ~ you should be able to see Perseids meteor activity during these same hours from now until August 24.
More Info: For the serous Perseid viewer, follow the Perseid Meteor shower on Twitter with a group of “intrepid stargazers” who will be holding a Twitter “meteor star gazing party”. You can also download a Meteor Shower App from NASA (go here for Android and here for iPhone).
