Family Event at the Gaylord Texan

Friday, August 31, 2012 (Last Weekend!)

Friday nights over Grapevine Lake will sparkle with spectacular fireworks this evening ~ a fun end of summer celebration! If you want to add some extra sparkle to your family evening, plan to view the fireworks from the Gaylord Texan Resort parking garage roof ~ a great viewing platform.  They will have a music DJ, games for kids, giveaways, and food and beverages for purchase.

Cost: FREE for both local and hotel guests to attend.  Do note, though, that there is a cost to park at the hotel.

Music lovers with an appetite for rich “blues” and mouth-watering barbecue will find the 2012 Bedford Blues & BBQ Festival a feast for the senses. This two-day family friendly event returns September 1 & 2 with an entertaining lineup that features some of the biggest names in blues.

Bank of America’s 2012 national program, Museums On Us offers FREE admission, the first full weekend of every month, to 120 participating museums throughout the U.S. This FREE Admission program takes place this weekend  in Fort Worth at the Fort Worth Museum of Science and History.

Saturday, September 1, 2012

This Saturday, bring your child to Home Depot’s Kids Workshop to help them learn a new woodworking skill and build their very own goal post football game to take home. Each Kids Workshop participant will receive a kid-sized orange apron (similar to a Home Depot associate apron) and an achievement pin. All workshops are free, but you should probably show up early to insure you have a kit for your little ones.

The Modern Art Museum ~ Fort Worth Kids Drawing Program

This fun program for children, held on the first Sunday of each month, includes two sessions ~ one for ages 5 to 8 and the other is for ages 9 to 12. Each free session is led by an artist who takes children through informal drawing exercises related to artworks in the Modern’s collection. Be sure to bring a sketchbook and pencils, or purchase supplies in the Modern Shop.  Each child under the age of six must be accompanied by an adult during the program.  Attendance is limited and early arrival is encouraged.

Fort Worth’s herd cowboys will present a fun and educational demonstration about the tools, equipment and techniques used during the cattle drive era of the late 1800′s at Fort Worth Cow Camp. Children and adults will have the opportunity for hands on, interactive experiences including roping sorting, saddling, cattle drive demonstrations, and more.

Join Williams-Sonoma for two classes: Saturday’s class will provide all you need to know to create a melt-in-your-mouth date night dinner and Sunday’s class will focus on the fundamentals of having a well-stocked pantry.  You will find out what chefs always have on hand, including healthy items that make easy meals.
