The Kimbell Art Museum ~ Fort Worth Art Program

Open-format sessions join art-making and gallery activities at the Kimbell to encourage fresh ways of looking at and responding to featured artworks and themes. Adults and teens can sign up at the entrance to the education studios in the Renzo Piano Pavilion beginning one hour before the program.  Do note that space is very limited.

Join River Legacy Living Science Center in Arlington for Birding 101, a multi-week series of classes designed for beginning birders and those who want to improve their birding skills. The adult workshop will be led by North Central Texas Master Birders and will include one hour of classroom instruction followed by one hour in the field. Bring your binoculars and field guide if you have them. A limited supply of binoculars will be available during the class.  Best suited for ages 12 and up. Space is limited. RSVP to 817.860.6752.

:: Celebrity Softball Double Header and Concert Benefiting
Wounded Warrior and Snowball Express.

Saturday, The Airpower Foundation will present Salute to the Warrior, a celebrity softball double-header and concert that will benefit the Wounded Warrior Amputee Softball Team and Snowball Express. Softball teams will be made up of celebrities as well as former and current professional athletes from Major League Baseball and the National Football League.

Some of the athletes participating are Patrick Crayton, Cory Procter and Isaiah Stanback formerly of the Dallas Cowboys as well as Kevin Mench from the Texas Rangers, and many more from the New Orleans Saints, San Francisco 49’ers, Washington Redskins, Baltimore Ravens, St Louis Rams, and Atlanta Falcons. The event features parachute jumpers as well as the opportunity to meet, the athletes and heroes. Country music recording star Matt Snook and comedian Bobby Henline will perform after the games.

The Modern Art Museum ~ Fort Worth Kids Drawing Program

FREE Drawing From the Collection classes for kids:  Two sessions of this free program for children are offered, one for ages 5 to 8 and one for ages 9 to 12. Each session is led by an artist who takes participants through informal drawing exercises that relate to works in the Modern’s galleries. Children under the age of six must be accompanied by an adult during the program. Bring a sketchbook and pencils. Attendance is limited; early arrival is encouraged. A signup sheet is located at the information desk.

FREE Drawing From the Collection class for adults:  Learn with local artists as they lead free, informal basic drawing classes in the galleries. This class is open to adults at all skill levels. Oh I love a parade! Over 100,000 people will line the streets of downtown Fort Worth to watch the “All Western Parade” and to celebrate the opening of the 2014 Fort Worth Stock Show and Rodeo. This traditional event is held each year and boasts being the largest western themed parade, as well as the longest 100% non-motorized (no cars) parade in the world. The parade will feature over 4,000 participants including covered wagons, horses, more than 1,000 head of livestock, and of course lots of cowboys!

Where: The parade starts in front of the Tarrant County Courthouse (Downtown at Weatherford and Main Streets), turns right on Main towards the Convention Center, and loops back to the Courthouse on Houston St.  Click here to view the new 2014 parade route.

Park at one of the many FREE downtown lots (Sundance Square, the parking garage next to Bass Hall, etc.) and walk to your viewing spot.

Target Free Credit Monitoring and Identity Theft Protection

As you have likely heard by now, there was a breach in personal data and credit/debit card information that occurred at Target stores from Thanksgiving to mid-December, potentially impacting 40 million customers.

In response to the breach, Target has offered to provide 1-year of FREE credit monitoring plus a FREE credit report, daily credit monitoring, identity theft insurance where available, and access to personalized assistance.

Target suggests that guests who sign up for free credit monitoring should continue to monitor their accounts and report any unusual or suspicious activity to their bank.

:: Go to the Target.com website to request an activation code for the FREE Credit Monitoring service and to find out more about the Target data breach.

Guests have until April 23, 2014 to sign up for their FREE year of credit monitoring. Even if you don’t think your information was compromised, you may want to sign up to be on the safe side.

Each session is led by an artist who takes participants through informal drawing exercises that relate to works in the Modern’s galleries. The Fort Worth Academy of Fine Arts performs The Littlest Wiseman, a pageant of the Nativity and presented as a Christmas gift to the community by the Dorothy Shaw Bell Choir. This gift to Fort Worth has been in production for over 50 years and is an annual tradition for many families. Tickets are FREE, but it is recommended that you make reservations in advance.

This weekend, NorthWood Church in Keller is hosting a fun community Christmas Festival for the entire family. The highlight of the festival will be the Story of Christmas hayride that will take you through 13 living scenes and panoramas, including a live nativity! Each night will also feature food trucks, bounce houses, a huge petting zoo, live music, games and so much more!

Join the Central Library in Downtown Fort Worth for a wonderful afternoon full of Victorian style family activities and entertainment, including carriage and Molly the Trolly rides, the Dallas Puppet Theater, holiday music and even photos with a live reindeer.  Christmas music will feature the Brass Works Quartet and the Dulcimer Players.  It’s all FREE and open to the public.
