Runners, Don’t Miss Out On Today’s Groupon ~ 50% OFF Fort Worth Running Company

Bookmark and Share

I just purchased this groupon, and wanted to make sure my readers saw this, too (a pretty rare savings deal for a great running store)…

50% OFF At the Ft Worth Running Company Store!

Groupon has launched a savings offer of 50% OFF Running Apparel and Accessories at the Fort Worth Running Company. When you buy today’s Groupon for $25, you will get a $50 gift certificate valid in-store and usable on just about anything

Get fitted for exercise shoes for FREE, too! If you have never been fitted properly for running/walking shoes, this is a good time to have that done. Fort Worth Running Company employs real-time, slow-motion video analysis to dissect individual gaits before fitting you for shoes.  The analysis is FREE, so when you combine that with today’s groupon, it’s really a great deal and an investment in injury prevention.

There is a limited quantity of these gift certificates available, so you might not want to wait if you plan to take advantage of this.

Use the certificate anytime through August 14th, 2011.

How to get the Offer:

  1. Go here to sign up for today’s 50% OFF deal.
  2. Select Fort Worth as Your Groupon City
  3. Buy your Groupon before the end of the day.
You do have until August 14th to use your Groupon, but since
there is a limited quantity of these certificates available, I would
recommend not waiting too long to make your purchase.

New to Groupon? You are in for a treat!

A few months ago, Groupon launched its Fort Worth site (AND we
did the happy dance at Frugal in Fort Worth!). If you are not familiar with
Groupon, definitely take a moment to check them out.

Groupon offers a daily deal on local goods, services and cultural events
across the country. I’ve seen their local offers include everything from
50% Off Cowboys Stadium Tour, 50% Off Nordstrom Rack to 75% Off
window cleaning ~ and seemingly everything in between! I’ve even bought
Groupon deals in other cities as a way to save on restaurant dining and
entertainment when we travel.

Here’s how it works:

1. Each day Groupon features a great deal at an unbeatable price.

2. You have to sign up for the offer that day, and only get the deal
if the minimum number of people join that day (so pass this along
to your friends)!

3. Check back the next day to discover the next Groupon offer (or sign up for their emails to have them delivered to your inbox)!

Taking advantage of this deal supports Frugal in Fort Worth.

Enjoy and Share! :)

Community Spotlight: Stamp Out Hunger USPS Letter Carrier Food Drive ~ Saturday May 14

Bookmark and Share

Introducing the new “Community Spotlight” column

If you have been a reader of Frugal in Fort Worth for any length of time, you know that I *love* our city and the amazing variety of activities it offers. Few major cities are privileged to have such an abundance of major cultural institutions & world-class art museums, a rich heritage, AND a vibrant community life!

In the spirit of giving a “hug” back to our community for all it does, we have started a new “Community Spotlight” column to honor some of the great non-profit organizations who serve Ft.Worth. We will sprinkle this column into our blog occasionally so you can get to know some of the great folks who help make our city the place that it is today.

Enjoy and be sure to leave a comment (here) to let these organizations know how much you appreciate them!

Stamp Out Hunger, Post Office Food Drive: Saturday May 14.

This Saturday, May 14, our local post office & letter carriers will team up with the Campbell Soup Company, Kroger, United States Postal Service, and CBS 11 to collect food donations in Dallas-Fort Worth during the annual Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive. The region-wide effort will help our local food banks provide assistance to the increasingly large number of Texans who are turning to hunger-relief agencies for aid. According to the latest Feeding America report, Texas has the second highest rate of childhood hunger in the nation – one in four children in the state do not know where their next meal is coming from.

How you can you help?

Well, it’s quite easy! Local households are encouraged to fill a durable, disposable bag with healthy, non-perishable foods like canned vegetables, peanut butter, pasta or cereal for food-insecure families, children and seniors. You can give food items from your pantry or you can purchase products at your local grocery store. Once you’ve filled the bag, leave it near your mailbox for your letter carrier to pick up on Saturday, May 14th. The letter carriers will deliver all donations to the local food banks.

About Stamp Out Hunger

Now in its 19th year, the Stamp Out Hunger effort is the nation’s largest single-day food drive benefiting cities across the country, including the 25 North Texas counties collectively served by the North Texas Food Bank and the Tarrant Area Food Bank. The drive comes at a critical time for food banks. Every year many hunger-relief agencies face the challenge of having depleted stocks during the summer months and this drive helps to raise thousands of pounds of essential food items for the organizations and their clients.

Thank you in advance for donating as well as sharing details about this food drive with others!

Go here to follow Stamp Out Hunger on Facebook or here to follow them on Twitter.

Just in Time for Summer Vacation: American Airlines Cutting Fares! $39 One-Way for 3 Days

Bookmark and Share

Great Airfare Deals on Thousands of Routes!
If you are looking to travel in the coming months, today is a great day to book! American Airlines just announced they are putting over 1,000 routes on sale through Thursday, May 12. Of course, as usual, other airlines like United, Southwest, Continental and other carriers have almost identical promotions of their own.

Fares are starting at $39 one-way and rates are valid for travel until October 5th. When comparing airlines, be sure to compare relevant fees to make sure you are getting the best deal (see price comparison tip below).

Note: To get the special pricing, you will need to book by
Thursday, May 12, 2011 for flights through October 5, 2011.

Details, Details
How:
Go to American‘s, Southwest‘s, and United’s sale and
compare prices for the destination and dates of interest. Seats
and availability are limited, so being flexible with your travel
dates and times will likely help you find the lowest fares as you
comparison shop.
When: Special fares are good for travel through October 5, 2011 with
some black out dates. You must book by Thursday, May 12, 2011 to
get the special fare. Book as soon as possible for best travel dates
and options.

Price comparison tip: When comparing different carriers, be sure to add in relevant fees when trying to get the lowest overall cost. Airline fees like checked baggage and food can quickly add-up if you  aren’t careful! Download the FREE & handy Ultimate Guide to  Airline Fees from Smarter Travel which quickly compares the various added fees of most U.S. carriers.

P.S. If you haven’t already taken advantage of the FREE invitation to join SniqueAway, be sure to check them out (read about our personal experience here to learn more!). Combining a cheap 4-5 star Hotel Deal through them with one of the low airline fares could make for a luxurious, but cheap spring or early summer vacation get-away!

Easy Mother’s Day Breakfast Ideas & Recipes: Let the Kids Cook

Bookmark and Share

We have rounded up some easy breakfast recipes to help get Dad & your little ones on the right track for Mother’s Day.  These recipes come from a few of our favorite home cooking & foodie sites, so even if the little one’s aren’t cooking breakfast for you, these are great sites/recipes to bookmark for use in the future.

Wholesome Mommy has some great advice for helping your kids take care of breakfast.  She says, “Decide on a simple dish/recipe that your kids can make all by themselves.  Leave easy to follow directions on the counter along with the dishes, tray, and any ingredients that the kids can’t safely reach themselves.  If you can, get your husband involved and tell him your plan so that he can help the kids get the things they need in the morning – but remind him to let them do it all by themselves!”  Her Mother’s Day breakfast recipes include Layered Granola Parfait, Cinnamon & Sugar Toast, Cinnamon Oranges, and some scrumptous looking Waffles with Pecan Maple Syrup

Mommy’s Kitchen Blog features some super easy recipes and easy to follow picture instructions for Yogurt & Granola Breakfast Parfaits, Bacon & Cheese Muffins, Sausage Cream Cheese Crescents, Easy Monkey Bread, Overnight French Toast, Fruit Smoothies, and more.

Food Network  has compiled a few recipes that they say are so easy, Mom won’t even need to help.  Their suggested simple menu for mom includes: Giada’s custardy Baked French toast with Blueberries, a Citrus Cream Smoothie, and The Lady’s Perfect Scrambled Eggs.

And for the somewhat experienced cook: AllRecipes.com has a “Mother’s Day Top 20” list of recipes that includes top-rated breakfast items like Simple Scones, Whole Grain Waffles, Crepes and a Cinnabon recipe clone (I must check this one out for myself!).  Do note that most of these recipes are probably too advanced for little ones, though.

Happy Mother’s Day, dear Moms.  I hope this is a restful, joyful weekend for you!   Enjoy and Share! :)
