Oops! Forgot it was Tax Day?

P.S. If you did forget to do your taxes or are just running out of time to finish them up, you can most likely file an extension with the IRS and extend your filing date to October 17th with Turbotax. Turbotax will walk you through this paperwork which takes just a few minutes — but do note that the extension request does have to be filed by April 18.

Main Street Arts Fest 2015

One of our favorite annual events, Main St. Fort Worth Arts Festival is finally here! This juried art fest showcases hundreds of the nation’s finest artists and is staged around the streets of downtown with Sundance Square Plaza acting as the main hub. The festival also features hundreds of performances throughout the weekend, including live concerts in just about every music genre — from R&B to country to jazz.  Even Cliburn pianist finalist Fei-Fei Dong, and the Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra will offer  special FREE performances It’s a family friendly event with an enormous variety of amazing art, savory food, live entertainment and even activities just for kids.

The City of North Richland Hills 2016 Sounds of Spring Concert Series kicks off with the area’s best bands taking the stage at the NRH Plaza — Friday evenings in April and May. Bring your friends and family out for fun, great music and relaxation under the stars this Spring!  Tonight’s show (Rain or Shine) offers a fun concert featuring local favorite,  Tejas Brothers. This free family event also includes a kid zone with games and crafts for the kids, as well as food you can buy from a variety of gourmet food trucks.  Seating for the concert is on the lawn, so don’t forget to bring your lawn chairs or picnic blankets.

The Texas Severe Storms Association (TESSA) will host the National Storm Conference on Saturday including seminars on severe weather safety, storm spotter training and in-depth discussions on supercell and tornado meteorology.  One of the event’s major elements, the annual Super Storm Spotter Session, will provide the highest level of training available to storm spotters anywhere in the country.  This year’s event is expected to draw nearly 500 attendees, including storm spotters, storm chasers, emergency managers, forecasters, researchers, educators, and others from across the US.

The Modern Art Museum ~ Fort Worth Kids Drawing Program

FREE Drawing From the Collection classes for kids:  Two sessions of this free program for children are offered, one for ages 5 to 8 and one for ages 9 to 12. Each session is led by an artist who takes participants through informal drawing exercises that relate to works in the Modern’s galleries. Children under the age of six must be accompanied by an adult during the program. Bring a sketchbook and pencils. Attendance is limited; early arrival is encouraged. A sign-up sheet can be found at the information desk.

This photo exhibit tells the story of two people caught between two different worlds — Cynthia Ann and Quanah Parker, two important names in U.S. frontier history. In 1836, a Comanche raiding party took Cynthia Ann from their family, and over the following years, she became wife to the Comanche chief and  mother to Quanah. After Cynthia Ann was taken back by Texas Rangers, Quanah became one of the most important Comanche leaders both in war and peace.

Fort Worth Central library

Join the Fort Worth Central Library for a retrospective showcase of works from award-winning Fort Worth local artist, Travers Green (1928-2008). His “tight-loose” painting style, along with a unique scratch and splatter technique combine to create country-themed paintings to give the viewer a sense of place and turn the ordinary into something extraordinary. These watercolor paintings have been reacquired by his son from various sources to compile a collection never before seen together.

This photo exhibit tells the story of two people caught between two different worlds — Cynthia Ann and Quanah Parker, two important names in U.S. frontier history. In 1836, a Comanche raiding party took Cynthia Ann from their family, and over the following years, she became wife to the Comanche chief and  mother to Quanah. After Cynthia Ann was taken back by Texas Rangers, Quanah became one of the most important Comanche leaders both in war and peace.

Join the Fort Worth Central Library for a retrospective showcase of works from award-winning Fort Worth local artist, Travers Green (1928-2008). His “tight-loose” painting style, along with a unique scratch and splatter technique combine to create country-themed paintings to give the viewer a sense of place and turn the ordinary into something extraordinary. These watercolor paintings have been reacquired by his son from various sources to compile a collection never before seen together.

This photo exhibit tells the story of two people caught between two different worlds — Cynthia Ann and Quanah Parker, two important names in U.S. frontier history. In 1836, a Comanche raiding party took Cynthia Ann from their family, and over the following years, she became wife to the Comanche chief and  mother to Quanah. After Cynthia Ann was taken back by Texas Rangers, Quanah became one of the most important Comanche leaders both in war and peace.

Oh I love a parade! Over 100,000 people will line the streets of downtown Fort Worth to watch the “All Western Parade” and to celebrate the opening of the 2016 Fort Worth Stock Show and Rodeo. This traditional event is held each year and boasts being the largest western themed parade, as well as the longest 100% non-motorized (no cars) parade in the world. The parade will feature over 4,000 participants including covered wagons, horses, more than 1,000 head of livestock, and of course lots of cowboys!

2016 Fort Worth Stock Show and Rodeo

The Fort Worth Stock Show and Rodeo 23 day event (January 15 – February 6) includes premier livestock shows, daily rodeo (extra ticket needed), musical entertainment, petting zoo, family friendly exhibits, and lots more. The daily schedule is packed full of special activities to enjoy and the list of exhibits and events is fresh each day.

Dickens of a Holiday Christmas Family Fun Event

Join the Central Library in Downtown Fort Worth for a wonderful afternoon full of Victorian style family activities and entertainment, including holiday themed programs and entertainment featuring music, crafts, story times and even photos with a live reindeer.   It’s all FREE and open to the public.  Tip: Beginning at noon on Dec. 13th, tickets will be issued for a photo with a live reindeer on a first-come, first-served basis. Reservations are not available. One ticket per family.

:: Visit Santa at Sundance Square ~ Downtown Fort Worth
Now Through December 23

Visit Santa at Sundance Square Plaza. The jolly old elf will be waiting to hear Christmas wishes at his home near the towering 59-foot Sundance Square Christmas tree, beautifully adorned with thousands of lights. Fort Worth Sister Cities International invites you to take your photo with Santa and is offering guests a photo with Santa for a $10 donation (cash only please) which will go towards youth programs. You are also welcome to bring your personal camera to take photos if you prefer.

:: Christmas on Main Street Event ~ Grapevine
Weekends through December 20, 2015

Step back in time this season at Christmas on Main! With the beautiful backdrop of the Victorian-style buildings dressed up with ribbons, bows and wreaths and set aglow with twinkling lights that children of all ages can enjoy.  Tractor-drawn wagon rides will depart behind the Gazebo during select hours.  Rides are $1 per person, per ride, proceeds benefit the historic preservation of Nash Farm.

The Kimbell Art Museum ~ Fort Worth Art Program

The Kimbell Kids drop-in program introduces children (ages 12 and under) and their adult companions to fun and inspiring ways to enjoy art together. Each session features a brief gallery activity and a related studio-art project. Sign up at the entrance to the education studios in the Renzo Piano Pavilion one hour before the program. Do note that you may want to arrive early to sign up as space is very limited.
