Main Street Arts Fest 2015

One of our favorite annual events, Main St. Fort Worth Arts Festival is finally here! This juried art fest showcases over 200 of the nation’s finest artists and is staged around the streets of downtown with Sundance Square Plaza acting as the main hub. The festival also features hundreds of performances throughout the weekend, including live concerts in just about every music genre — from R&B to country to jazz.  Even Cliburn Award Winner Steven Linand the Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra will offer  special FREE performancesIt’s a family friendly event with an enormous variety of amazing art, savory food, live entertainment and kids activities.

Top-your-own-pancakes will satisfy everyone’s taste buds and fun themed games for all ages will provide everyone an opportunity to smile and laugh.

7‑Eleven is kicking off Slurpee season on Saturday, April 11 with BYO Cup Day. Slurpee-lovers are invited to bring their own cups – or containers that can be used as cups – to their participating neighborhood 7‑Eleven store between 11 a.m. and 7 p.m., and fill it with their favorite Slurpee flavor.

The cost to fill the Slurpee “cup” of choice, regardless of size, is $1.49, the average cost of a medium Slurpee drink. The cup, though, must fit upright through an in-store display with a 10-inch-diameter hole.

With the severe weather season right around the corner, the National Weather Service is preparing North Texans by hosting a free SkyWarn storm workshop.  This workshop will discuss spotting and reporting storms, identifying cloud features, learning safety rules, and planning for a severe weather day.  You can even become a certified SkyWarn spotter if you’d like!

The class will be divided into two parts — a basic overview of storm spotting will be presented in the morning session, and in the afternoon session, the class will consist of more advanced topics like radar interpretation and severe storms.

The Modern Art Museum ~ Fort Worth Kids Drawing Program

FREE Drawing From the Collection classes for kids:  Two sessions of this free program for children are offered, one for ages 5 to 8 and one for ages 9 to 12. Each session is led by an artist who takes participants through informal drawing exercises that relate to works in the Modern’s galleries. Children under the age of six must be accompanied by an adult during the program. Bring a sketchbook and pencils. Attendance is limited; early arrival is encouraged. A sign-up sheet can be found at the information desk.

FREE Drawing From the Collection class for adults:  Learn from local artists as they lead informal basic drawing classes in the galleries. This free class is open to adults at all skill levels—just bring a sketchbook and pencils. Registration is not required, but participants should sign in at the information desk.
