Texas SmartScape Plant Fairs — Special Deals on Drought Tolerant Plants

Spring has sprung and it’s time to think about how to drought proof your landscape. The Texas SmartScape Plant Fairs are an opportunity to get great deals on select varieties of native and adapted drought-tolerant plants. Knowledgeable master gardeners, plant experts and an irrigation specialist will be on hand to answer your plant, design and irrigation questions.  There will also be “kid-friendly” activities with special hands-on gardening workshops for children 5-12.

In addition to the Fort Worth & surrounding area fairs listed below, there will be 26 other plant fair events in the DFW metroplex. All Events Take Place 8:00 am – 12:00 pm:

Seven-Eleven Slurpee Saturday

7‑Eleven is kicking off Slurpee season on Saturday, April 11 with BYO Cup Day. Slurpee-lovers are invited to bring their own cups – or containers that can be used as cups – to their participating neighborhood 7‑Eleven store between 11 a.m. and 7 p.m., and fill it with their favorite Slurpee flavor.

The cost to fill the Slurpee “cup” of choice, regardless of size, is $1.49, the average cost of a medium Slurpee drink. The cup, though, must fit upright through an in-store display with a 10-inch-diameter hole.

As part of Cliburn in the Community, the Fort Worth Central Library will host a FREE performance by award-winning pianist Steven Lin. A charismatic and imaginative musician, he received a Jury Discretionary Award at the 2013 Cliburn Competition.

The concert will take place in the Gallery of the Fort Worth Central Library (500 W. 3rd Street) Thursday, April 9 at 6:30pm.

ABOUT STEVEN LIN
Taiwanese American pianist Steven Lin is an immediately engaging and imaginative young artist. Prizewinner at the 2012 Concert Artists Guild Victor Elmaleh Competition, 2013 Van Cliburn International Piano Competition, and 2014 Arthur Rubinstein Piano Competition, the Washington Post describes him as “…a muscular poet at the keyboard.” Steven made his New York Philharmonic debut at age 13, and has since performed in such venues as Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall, Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C., Wigmore Hall in London, Louvre and Salle Cortot in Paris, and the Seoul Arts Center. He received his bachelor’s and master’s degrees at The Juilliard School, and is currently pursuing a performance diploma at the Curtis Institute of Music.

Join Williams-Sonoma’s weekly Junior Chef Class where they will show kids how fun and easy cooking can be.  They’ll learn to make delicious recipes, from main courses to desserts and snacks, with plenty of tasting along the way.  At this week’s class, kid’s will learn how to make pancake batter and flip some flapjacks. They’ll be able to  personalize their pancake with some good-for-you foods like walnuts, coconut and flax. They’ll also learn how to make a hazelnut-chocolate spread, to top everything off.
