It is worth checking out Rue La La, the flash/daily deal boutique site (owned by PayPal) which offers every day quality home and clothing brands (like Ariat Boots, Crocs shoes, and Cuisinart Kitchen products) as well as very high-end fashion items (such as Halston, Cartier, Vera Bradley, Judith Ripka, and Stuart Weitzman) ~ all at discount outlet store prices.  Every day you’ll find new bargains including beautiful clothes, magazine-page worthy home decor, toys, housewares and lots more.

There are about 10-15 new boutiques introduced on Rue La La daily ~ they typically sale out fast and last only a few days.  If something you like does sell out before the sale ends, you can ask to be put on a waiting list for that item.  Sometimes it works out if the manufacturer has extras.

Here’s a great deal if that pesky time-to-change-your-water-filter light is blinking on your refrigerator (or about to be)…

It is way past time for us to replace the water filters on our refrigerator, so it was a nice discovery to find that through January 31, Amazon is giving an extra 20% OFF refrigerator filter replacements for select Whirlpool, Kitchenaid, Kenmore,  Maytag, and Amana refrigerators.  That savings is on top of the current discounted price you’ll see from Amazon, bringing some of the filters to 65% OFF the retail price you would normally pay!

For my purchase, that meant I received from Amazon, 2 Water Filters for the same price as 1 from Sears  (that’s even after Sears discounted price!).

Buying Tip: Do note, that you won’t see the extra 20% discount subtracted from the selling price until you get to the final “Review Your Order”/Order Summary confirmation page (which is the last page you’ll see after you input your shipping and credit card details) ~ right before you actually approve the order to be placed.  It will look something like this (click picture to make it bigger):

We rarely post magazine deals since there is so much great content online for free, but we found this list of $5 subscriptions one of the best magazine deals we’ve seen in a while and definitely worth passing along.   One of our favorites, Veranda, is on the list too (dreamy decor ideas!).

FREE Grocery Buying Guide From Cook’s Illustrated: Get The Most From Your Food Budget

Cook’s Illustrated, the magazine pub from TV’s America’s Test Kitchen (and a favorite magazine of foodies), has put together their annual Buying Guide for Supermarket Ingredients, and you can print it out FREE here. 

This handy list compiles the America’s Test Kitchen winning finalists for hundreds of name brand packaged foods in lots of grocery categories from ketchup (winners = Hunts and Heinz) to chocolate chip brands (winners = Ghiradelli, Guittard, & Hershey’s).  This useful guide is compiled based on blind taste tests conducted over the last year, and winners are selected based on best overall quality, taste, and convenience.

Tips on How to Use This List:  I have used these “best of” lists from Cook’s Illustrated for the last few years, and find them extremely helpful in getting the best quality for my grocery dollar.  It prints on a standard letter size piece of paper and is a convenient reference to keep with my weekly grocery list.  I also save a copy to my iPhone so I’ll always have the list with me at the store (this is a pdf, so you can save it to your computer or any smart phone capable of reading a pdf document)!  I hope you find it useful, too.

Cards should be available at all Starbucks through next Monday (January 16). Be sure to download your book before the redemption code expires in April.

You might have read about the Museums on Us program that offers Bank of America/Merrill Lynch bank cardholders FREE admission to the Fort Worth Science & History Museum, The Dallas Museum of Art and the Dallas Museum of Nature & Science on the first Saturday and Sunday of each month (that would be this weekend ~ January 7 & 8).

Did you know that this same FREE admission offer is available at over 150 other cultural venues from coast to coast?

As part of Museums on Us, cultural institutions in 91 cities across the country open their doors for FREE to bank cardholders on the first full weekend of each month.  FREE access includes some of the country’s best cultural institutions like the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City, Museum of Contemporary Art in Miami ~ the Houston Zoo is also participating.
