FREE Pumpkin Carving Stencils & Jack-O-Lantern Patterns (Over 100 FREE Downloads & Ideas)

Bookmark and Share

Pumpkin Carving

Don’t you love this weather?  It’s a welcome reminder that the beginning of the fall season is here (I don’t know about you, but I am soooo ready!!).  It is the perfect time to make a fun family memory by carving a jack-o-lantern to decorate your home.

Pick up a couple of inexpensive pumpkins and try you hand at a fun design with one of  these FREE pumpkin stencils!

  • The Texas Rangers fan club  has 4 FREE Texas Rangers and Texas themed FREE printable jack-o-lantern templates hereShow your support for our favorite baseball team!
  • Kraft.com has 6 different pumpkin face patterns as well as an easy-to-follow guide for carving pumpkins, here.
  • Hesheys.com offers a wide variety of 30 different patterns from easy to advanced, with printable carving instructions.
  • Better Homes and Gardens provides 6 silly face patterns, here.  And even more creative ideas for decorating pumpkins here.
  • DisneyFamily.com has over 20 Disney character patterns that include Mickey Mouse, Kermit the Frog, Tigger, Phineas and Ferb, and Goofy.
  • Nick Jr. offers favorite Nick Jr. TV show character patterns like Dora the Explorer and many others.
  • PumpkinLady.com provides a wide selection of clever design templates, most for less than $2. Click around the site for some great ideas.  You’ll also find 12 designs for FREE  here.  Follow the pumpkin lady’s Facebook or Twitter pages for other free designs and discounts, too.

I recommend a couple of great tools for making your pumpkin carving project easier:

Pumpkin Carving        Pumpkin Carving

  • For the more serious pumpkin carving project, I recommend the Messermeister Pumpkin Carving Kit which includes a chef quality Pumpkin/Melon knife, scoop and carving tools in a storage case.  The special blades are designed to carve intricate designs beautifully (not for the kiddos, though)!   They’ll give a great grip when cutting and carving pumpkins and thick melons, too.
  • If you want one really good tool, I recommend getting a special Pumpkin/Melon Carving knife. We really like the Warren Pro Pumpkin Carving knife. It is well made with a walnut handle and comes with several sturdy replacement blades that have a fine saw like cutting action ~ they will not bend or break as with the cheaper versions.  Again, this is not safe for kids.

SAVVY SHOPPER TIP: A New Way to Get an Online Bargain

Bookmark and Share

Here’s a savvy online shopping tip worth passing along (finally, it pays to be indecisive!)…

piggybank600

You know the “Everything is negotiable” saying? That’s often true, but with online shopping, trying to bargain over price is a bit more difficult.  For shoppers, there is a new way to try to “haggle” to get a better online deal ~ abandon your shopping cart. We have found that it pays to wait, as many online retailers will email discounts to those who fill up a shopping basket, but don’t complete their purchase.

The Chicago Tribune Reports:  “Every few seconds, thousands of online shoppers do something they would probably never do in real life — they walk away from their shopping carts.  …Retailers are trying to combat such massive lost opportunity with emails, reminding customers that they left merchandise unpurchased… Some offer discount codes to lure shoppers back to their carts, and therein lies an opportunity for wafflers.”

Do note that in order for the shopping cart abandonment discount strategy to work, you have to get far enough into the checkout process to enter your email address and create a customer account.

Not every online retailer will offer this type of discount (we’ve tried Amazon, but to not avail), but it’s worth a try if you want to get the best deal and aren’t in a hurry.  Those who we know are regularly using this tactic include Land’s End, Best Buy, Home Depot, Zappos, Lids.com, Overstock, Hanes.com, Crocs, and ProFlowers

Even Avis Car Rental has taken part in this “negotiation” tactic.  When members of their preferred program set up a reservation with them and do everything except finalize it, they’ll get a coupon for a free upgrade less than 8 hours later.

In the end,  abandoning your shopping online shopping cart is one of many ways to save on an online purchase.  As always, we continue to recommend that you shop around and compare and search out the best discount strategies to get the best deals.

::

Have you had an experience with an online retailer that has sweetened the deal after you abandoned your cart?
Tell us in a comment below and share with your fellow readers.
We’d all love to hear about your experience!

City of Fort Worth Rain Barrel Promotion ~ It’s Back!

Bookmark and Share

Rain Barrel Promotion City of Fort Worth

In case you missed it the first time around ~ The City of Fort Worth is again partnering with Rain Water Solutions to offer 50-gallon, rain barrels for just $58 in November.  We double checked the average prices of similar rain barrels and found this to be a great deal (other versions start at about $100 and go up from there).

New to rain barrel water harvesting?
It’s a pretty simple concept. Water is conserved by capturing rainwater from your house rooftop (your home’s gutter downspout connects to the rain barrel) ~ the harvested water can be used for gardening, lawn irrigation and foundation protection.  It is important to note that rain barrel harvesting is not as much about saving on your water bill as it is about wisely saving and using our precious water resources.  Learn more about rain barrel usage and conservation, here.

Good news, while this is a City of Fort Worth initiative, the rain barrel sale is open to all.

Here’s how to take advantage of the city’s promotion:

  • Order and pre-pay for your rain barrels through the Rain Water Solutions website before November 2. Print the confirmation email you receive with the order number and bring it to the pick up event.
  • Pick up your rain barrel November 10, between 9 a.m. – 1 p.m. at  301 Northeast 6th Street, LaGrave Field Parking Lot (Fort Worth Cats baseball stadium). Get more details here.
  • Learn about the features of the Ivy 50-gallon rain barrel here.

Thanks Fort Worth for your efforts to save our water supply!
