Beware Fake Travel Freebies in Your Email

An advisory worth passing along:

“Just in case you’re tempted, here’s the word on some familiar email scams making the rounds again in new guises.

Delta customers, particularly SkyMiles members, should pay attention to this advisory. The phisher baits the hook with what purports to be an email notification that the receipt for tickets you supposedly purchased is attached to the email. Well, if you haven’t bought tickets, don’t let curiousity get the better of you. Do what Delta says: Don’t click on the attachment. If you do, you’re basically saying, “Hello, virus, come on in.” The Delta advisory makes it clear the airline isn’t the source for these emails, and even recommends changing your SkyMiles PIN and keeping an eye your account.”

Worth Checking Out: SniqueAway $25 Secret Sale on 4.5 Star Hotel!

Bookmark and Share

TOP RATED HOTELS + FANTASTIC BARGAINS + FREE MEMBERSHIP = SNIQUEAWAY TRAVEL SITE

Earlier this year, I wrote an independent review on SniqueAway, Trip Advisor’s free travel bargain site (go here to read).  Since we are on the fringes of the busy travel season, I want to pop these folks back on your radar as you make your vacation plans.  They have been offering lots of deep discounts on some great 4 & 5-Star rated hotels around the world. In fact, two of the hotels this week are right here in Texas:  Austin’s Barton Creek Resort & Spa (40% OFF) and the Grand Hotel in McKinney (35% OFF).

Membership to SniqueAway is FREE, but you have to be invited to join (and you are officially invited by Frugal in Fort Worth!) :)

Secret Sale: $25 A Night At A 4.5 Star Hotel

This week, SniqueAway launched a new “secret sale” that has my interest piqued.  When you share this sale with 5 friends, you get access to a 4.5 Star Hotel for $25 a nightI have no idea where this hotel will be located (we are so very curious!), but on Friday, June 10, SniqueAway will reveal the destination and booking availability at this cheap rate.  If you are planning a family vacation, but are still choosing a location, this is worth considering as an option.

If you haven’t already signed up for SniqueAway, you can sign up & join here (FREE)!

TOP RATED HOTELS + FANTASTIC BARGAINS + FREE MEMBERSHIP = SNIQUEAWAY TRAVEL SITE

Backed by the credibility of TripAdvisor.com, SniqueAway offers limited-time sales and deep discounts on some fantastic 4 & 5-Star rated hotels around the world, with savings typically from 40-60% OFF.  The hotel sales change weekly and span a wide range of travel tastes and budgets.  Membership to Snique Away is FREE, but you have to be invited to join (and you are officially invited by Frugal in Fort Worth!)

______________________________

My personal experience with SniqueAway.

A few months ago, I was sent a private invitation to join SniqueAway.  To be candid, when I received this invitation, I was a bit sceptical about what it was. I didn’t want to unknowingly sign up as a target for one of those annoying time-share deals with all the high-pressure sales riff-raff (pretty much like gum on the shoe).  Plus, the austere pre-member-sign-in web design and invitation-only aspect made it impossible to preview & peruse the website to make sure this was something I was truly interested in (hopefully this review will make it much easier for you).

After doing quite a bit of research and watching and comparing various travel offers, I am happy to say that I am very comfortable recommending SniqueAway to my readers. It is an easy, easy way to find unheard of deals on some of the best hotels in the world.  It turns out it is part of one of my favorite travel opinion sites, Trip Advisor (read here and here for a nice overview).  In fact, the only hotels featured on SniqueAway are ones that have been highly rated by readers like you and me on TripAdvisor.com ~ ratings from folks who have actually stayed at these hotels and share their opinions, both pros & cons.

This got my attention. For the last few years, Trip Advisor has been the first site I go to and one of the most credible opinion-sites when I’m selecting hotels, restaurants, and travel activities for new places (not to mention it has been great for fresh entertainment & restaurant ideas for Fort Worth).  I’m officially a fan of SniqueAway, and wanted to make sure my readers had a chance to take advantage of their free membership & travel bargains, too!

What to expect when you sign up with SniqueAway ~

Once I signed up, I started receiving 1 email per week featuring about 5 hotel bargain deals from around the U.S. and across the world (plus a sneak preview at hotel deals that would be offered the following week). The offers are on a first come, first serve basis, lasting up to seven days or until sold out.

Since you will not be able to view these bargains until you sign up, I’m adding a screen capture below so you can get an idea of what you’ll see on a typical hotel bargain offer (you can see from the example below on the Dallas Adolphus, the price range goes from a pretty affordable deluxe room to luxurious suite options).

You’ll also notice that there is a Trip Advisor review tab (found on every hotel deal listing) where you can link to and read corresponding hotel reviews, providing quick insight into the experiences of other travelers and how they view the hotel.

HOW IT WORKS

1.  Sign up with this invitation. There is no cost to join the members-only service, but a private invitation is required.  As a reader of Frugal in Fort Worth, you are officially invited (Go here)!

2.  Check out the weekly hotel deals. Once you’re a member, there are always deals available on SniqueAway, with 3-5 new sales added Mondays at 1PM CST.

  • Members are notified via email of each week’s hotel deals, with offers on a first come, first serve basis, lasting up to seven days or until sold out. Members can preview future hotel deals seven days in advance and can set up a reminder for alerts when sales start.
  • After members receive and accept the invitation, they can check out photos and property overviews of the hotel offers. Inside every SniqueAway Escape there are TripAdvisor reviews, hotel amenities, room details—even local hot spots and location maps.
  • All hotels featured on SniqueAway have earned at least a four-star rating classification and four out of five review ratings on TripAdvisor.

3. Select and book your room.  Enter room type, check-in/check-out dates and click “Select.” Enter traveler information and any special requests for the hotel. From the time dates are selected, members have 15 minutes to click “Book it!” or the room(s) will be returned to inventory. All taxes and fees are included unless otherwise noted in the policies.

4.  Confirm, pack your toothbrush, and enjoy!  Upon booking, members receive a confirmation email from SniqueAway. All guests need at check-in is the hotel confirmation number and a credit card for any hotel purchase not included within the SniqueAway escape.

Sign up & join here (FREE)!

Go to Kayak.com to get 10% OFF when you book your American Airlines

Why are they doing this? American Airlines is in a battle with several

reason, I love it when, in the end, the customer wins and gets to save.  :)

ABOUT THE FRUGAL & FUN FORT WORTH WEEKEND EDITION ~
Each Friday, we post ideas for free (or almost free) weekend entertainment for you and your family. Here are this weekend’s tips…

Frugal Weekend Entertainment Option #1

It’s Fall Festival Time!  Have a Safe and Fun Halloween!

FallFestPumkins

It’s that time of year…hay rides, kids dressed up as their favorite characters, and enough candy to keep every dentist in business! I love fall.

Are you looking for a fun and safe way to celebrate the weekend’s fall festivities with your family?  Lots of churches, schools, and businesses in the community have put together fun festivals with safe places to trick or treat and play games.

A few FREE suggestions:

Central Market Stores, Saturday ~ October 31
Fort Worth Location • 2-5 p.m. (4651 West Freeway)
South Lake Location • 3-5:30 p.m. (1425 E. Southlake Blvd)

Start out at the main entrance and grab a map, then wind your way through the store, stopping at each Scavenger Hunt station to get a treat! Once you’ve scavenged all there is to hunt, make your way out to the patio for the Bean Bag Toss, Cookie Decorating, Cake Walk and Costume Parade. They’ll have prizes galore and tons of fun for the kids!  More details here.

Bass Pro Shops, Saturday, Friday & Saturday ~ October 30-31
Grapevine Location (2501 Bass Pro Drive)

Other local carnivals and festivals (lots of choices)
Click here for a nice list
of family-safe, harvest and fall festivals put on by churches and schools throughout Fort Worth and surrounding areas. Thanks to radio station KCBI 90.9 for putting together this great list.    Also, take a look at our previous post  FREE Pumpkin Carving Patterns & DFW Pumpkin Patch Locations for more ideas.

Frugal Weekend Entertainment Option #2

Dress Up Like a Burrito & Get a FREE Burrito from Chipotle!
Saturday, October 31, 6pm to closing

         Chipotle boorito

This makes me laugh.  If you will dress like a burrito (OR taco bowl OR salad) and head to Chipotle, you’ll get a free Burrito on October 31st.  I think the real entertainment will be “people watching” at Chipotle!

I’m still trying to figure out how you dress like a burrito/taco bowl/salad.  If you have any ideas, please share in the comments section of this blog post!

Frugal Travel Alert: FREE DAY AT DISNEY!

Disney Mickey

Give a Day. Get a Disney Day.

I love this!  Hands On Volunteer Network  and Disney Parks are partnering to recognize community volunteers by giving them a FREE One-day ticket to a Disney theme park!

If you are not already plugged into regular service for your community, this is a great way to start.  You and your family will be blessed beyond the one-day ticket to Disney, I promise!

How does it work?
BEGINNING JANUARY 1, 2010, when you sign up  to volunteer a day of service with a participating organization, you’ll get one day admission to a Walt Disney World Resort® in Lake Buena Vista, Florida or Disneyland Resort® in Anaheim, California theme park, FREE!

3 Steps to qualify for your ticket:

  1. Search and sign up for a volunteer opportunity from a participating organization (beginning January 1, 2010, sign up here).
  2. Complete your service for the volunteer opportunity you selected.
  3. Celebrate :)  Once your service is verified, receive a voucher to redeem your Disney theme park ticket!

Where do I get more details and sign up?
Go to www.disneyparks.com, follow the links to search for volunteer opportunities made available through Hands On Volunteer Network, and sign up for a day of volunteer service (beginning January 1). Many of the opportunities will be projects that entire families can participate in together!  As the nation’s largest volunteer network, you’ll have lots of service choices through the Hands On Network which connects volunteers to more than 70,000 nonprofit agencies across the country.

Though the offer from Disney doesn’t begin until January 201o, you don’t have to wait until then to serve.  There are service needs all around you…check with your local food pantry, church, Meals on Wheels, etc.  There are plenty of ways to get plugged in!

Enjoy!  :)
