:: FREE Inaugural Events and Exhibit Entrance to The Kimbell’s
Age of Impressionism: Great French Paintings from the Clark
 Saturday & Sunday, March 10 & 11 (Exhibit through June 17)

 

This weekend, visitors are invited to a series of FREE inaugural events as part of the opening of the Kimbell Art Museum’s special exhibition of The Age of Impressionism: Great French Paintings from the Clark. 

  • Saturday features three free lectures from leading art scholars.  No reservations are required, but seating is limited.
  • Sunday’s official opening to the public will offer FREE ADMISSION for the first 101 visitors and an afternoon of FREE 19th century music and ballet performances.

About the Exhibit: The Kimbell Art Museum is the sole American venue for this international touring exhibition of the renowned Impressionist collection of the Clark Art Institute. The 73 paintings in the exhibition include some of the most familiar masterpieces of the Impressionist era and features 21 Renoirs and six Monets, along with works by Degas, Manet, Pissarro, Gauguin, Toulouse-Lautrec, and other prominent French painters of the period.

: Go here to see the schedule of all inaugural exhibit activities.  Lecture series takes place Saturday, March 10, 2012 ~ 10:00AM – 2:30PM.  Opportunity for free exhibit admission (for the first 101 visitors) starts Sunday, March 11, 2012 at 12:00PM.  Exhibit runs daily through June 17, 2012.
Where: The Kimbell Art Museum, 3333 Camp Bowie Blvd, Fort Worth. For directions to the Kimbell, click here. The lecture series will take place in the Darnell Street auditorium, across Van Cliburn Way from the museum.

:: Big River: The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn at Artisans Theater
Enjoy the classic story of Huckleberry Finn brought to life onstage at Artisan Theater. Do note that the show will be performed in Sign Language on Monday nights and Saturday matinees.  For more info about this live theater production, click here.

:: FREE Wizard of Oz Classic Family Movie Showing

Join the Fort Worth Central Library for a free showing of the classic film The Wizard of Oz featuring Judy Garland on Saturday, March 10. This movie showing is part of the Second Saturday Family Film Series which runs monthly family-friendly movies through the end of the year.

About the movie: One of the most popular films of all time ~ A tornado whisks Dorothy and her dog Toto into the magical land of Oz, where she encounters the Tin Man, the Scarecrow, a Cowardly Lion and a wicked witch. Adapted from L. Frank Baum’s classic novel. Rated G; 102 minutes.

This live family friendly music event will take place every Sunday and will feature a different theme each week ~ Western Gospel music will be featured on the 5th Sunday of the month.
