Celebrate the first powered flight in Fort Worth 

On a windy afternoon on Jan. 12, 1911, Roland Garros, memmber of a touring group of French and American pilots, took to the air and became the first person to perform a powered flight in Fort Worth. A crowd of nearly 17,000 people watched the event at the Fort Worth Driving Park near present-day Montgomery Plaza. To commemorate the event, the Veterans Memorial Air Park will host a First Flight Day celebration on Saturday.  Learn more about Fort Worth’s aviation heritage at this FREE event.

Join the Fort Worth Central Library for a free showing of the fun Steven Spielberg children’s movie The Adventures of Tintin on Saturday, January 12. This event is part of the Central Library’s Second Saturday Film Series which runs monthly family friendly movies through the end of the year.

About the movie: Filmmakers Steven Spielberg and Peter Jackson come together to bring to life Herge’s comic series based on a young reporter named Tintin. Tintin and his loyal dog embark on a journey to uncover secrets of a sunken ship that could lead to fortune or a curse. Rated PG. 107 minutes. Read movie reviews here.

 Explore the nature trails surrounding the River Legacy Living Science Center on an extended FREE family friendly (best suited for ages 10 and up) 3-hour nature hike, led by a Master Naturalist. The Living Science Center is the gateway to River Legacy Parks in Arlington.

This live family friendly music event will take place every Sunday and will feature a different theme each week ~ Western Gospel music will be featured on the 5th Sunday of the month.
