First Friday On The Green

Enjoy a fun evening with your family and friends at First Friday on the Green, a FREE monthly live music series rolled out by Fort Worth South. This month brings fantastic local talent Tim Halperin, American Idol Semi-finalist and Soul Track Mind from Austin. Bring your blankets and chairs (and even Fido if you want), and enjoy an evening of live music from great bands in a relaxing setting.

What: Fort Worth South, Inc. (FWSI) is the non-profit org behind

When: Friday, August 5, 2011 ~ 7:00PM
Where: Head to Magnolia Green Park ~ 1100 Block of Lipscomb,
    between Magnolia and Rosedale (across the street from the Village
    Homes row houses).
Cost: In lieu of admission (which is FREE), you are encouraged to make
    a donation of school supplies to Southside Church of Christ (to help
    children in need).

:: FREE Grapevine Lake Fireworks Show & Summer Blast
Family Event at the Gaylord Texan

Friday, August 5, 2011 (and Every Friday through Labor Day)


Friday nights over Grapevine Lake will sparkle with spectacular firework shows each Friday through the summer, now through Labor day. If you want to add some extra fun to your family evening, plan to view the fireworks from the Gaylord Texan Resort parking garage roof ~ a great viewing platform ~ and they will have a DJ, games for kids, and food and beverages for purchase.

Join the Noble Planetarium staff for a FREE Star Gazing party Saturday night. Saturday’s party, Vesta Fiesta will be dedicated to celebrating NASA’s Dawn Missions adventures as the spacecraft orbits around the asteroid Vesta.You will find plenty of telescopes for viewing and lots of experts available to help you and your family navigate your way through the skies and honor this rare astronomical occurrence.

When: Saturday, August 6 ~ begins at dusk (weather permitting)
until 1:00AM.  Prime Asteroid viewing will be from 11:00PM to 1:00AM,

:: Fun! Fort Worth Cow Camp for Kids at the Stockyards

Fort Worth’s herd cowboys will present a fun and educational demonstration about the tools, equipment and techniques used during the cattle drive era of the late 1800′s at Fort Worth Cow Camp. Children and adults will have the opportunity for hands on, interactive experiences including roping sorting, saddling, cattle drive demonstrations, and more.

Bank of America’s 2011 national program, Museums On Us offers FREE admission, the first full weekend of every month, to 120 participating museums throughout the U.S. This FREE Admission program takes place this weekend (August 6 & 7) in Fort Worth at the recently renovated Fort Worth Museum of Science and History.

This Saturday, bring your child to Home Depot’s Kids Workshop to help them learn a new woodworking skill and make a FREE PencilBox ~ a perfect back-to-school project!

Each Kids Workshop participant will receive a kid-sized orange apron (similar to a Home Depot associate apron) and an achievement pin. All workshops are free, but you should probably show up early to insure you have a kit for your little ones.
