:: Enjoy a Day in Dallas at the Texas State Fair
Now through October 23, 2011

This weekend kicks off the month-long State Fair of Texas entertainment
and fried foods extravaganza in Dallas. The Texas State Fair runs now through October 23 and covers just about  every area of interest. There are literally hundreds of entertainment choices and music performances throughout the month including many well-known names that range from KC & The Sunshine Band to Randy Travis to The Bangles. There is something for everyone!

:: Gunsmoke on the Brazos Historical Reenactment ~ Granbury
Saturday and Sunday, October 1-2, 2011

See the past come to life this weekend in Granbury as re-enactors from across the United States appear in their 1800s wardrobe! This family friendly weekend will offer something for all ages, including Western reenactments, live entertainment, living history presentations, games, contests and more! Sunday morning will start with Cowboy Church, followed by breakfast.

Saturday evening, attendees will enjoy Texas Country music during a Concert Under the Stars featuring local performer Andi LaRee and the Matt Kimbrow Band and award-winning, Charla Corn & The Trainwreck.

Where: Festivities will take place in Hewlett Park (across from the Granbury Resort Conference Center), on 620 East Pearl Street, Granbury
Cost: Attendance is FREE! Tickets for the Concert Under the Stars are $12 online (go here) or $15 at the gate. Proceeds will benefit Preserve Granbury, a non-profit organization that works to preserve and promote the history and integrity of the community.

:: FREE 10th Annual Octoberfest in Southlake
September 30-October 2, 2011

Spend the first weekend of October at Southlake Town Square enjoying some of the area’s greatest talents at the 10th Annual Octoberfest.  This 3-day event provides a lengthy list of entertainment, food and fun (see the event and entertainment schedule here). Even Radio Disney will make an appearance!

Bank of America’s 2011 national program, Museums On Us offers FREE  admission, the first full weekend of every month, to 120 participating museums throughout the U.S.

This FREE Admission program takes place this weekend (October 1 & 2in Fort Worth at the Fort Worth Museum of Science and History.

:: FREE ~ Home Depot ~ Build. Learn. Create. Kids Workshop
Saturday, October 1, 2011

This Saturday, bring your child to Home Depot’s Kids Workshop to help them learn a new woodworking skill and make a FREE Fire Rescue Helicopter Toy  to take home.

Each Kids Workshop participant will receive a kid-sized orange apron (similar to a Home Depot associate apron) and an achievement pin. All workshops are free, but you should probably show up early to insure you have a kit for your little ones.

  1. Actually Frugal Texas State Fair Admission Deals:
    \Opening Day September 30, 2011
    Bring a 20 oz. bottle of Dasani water (or any Coca-Cola product) for donation to the North Texas Food Bank containers at Fair admission gates and get in for $5 per (per donation) per person.

    Any Day
    McDonald’s offers $4 off General Admission with one of their State Fair coupons (available on tray liner or bag stuffer) any day of the Fair. A free child ticket (with purchase of general admission) coupon is also distributed by McDonald’s. Offer may not be combined with any other offer.

    Dr Pepper $5 after 5
    Any day after 5 p.m. Bring an empty Dr Pepper can and enter for $5 after 5 p.m.

    Dr Pepper $4 Tuesdays
    Every Tuesday during the 2011 season, bring an empty Dr Pepper can and enter for $4. Most rides (excluding the Thrillway and the Texas Star) are 5 coupons.

    Kroger $2/Can Food Drive Wednesdays
    Any Wednesday admission is $2 for each visitor bringing 3 cans of food for area food banks.

    Coke $5 Thursday
    Bring an empty 20 oz. bottle of a Coca-Cola product and enter the Fair for $5 admission.

    Cinemark Free Thursday Admission
    Bring a Cinemark Theater ticket stub and get free admission on Thursdays.

    Seniors Day
    Senior citizens (age 60 and over) may enter for free every Thursday during the State Fair of Texas: October 6, 13, and 20, 2011.

    Dickies Day
    Thursday, October 6, 2011. Anyone wearing a Dickies logo clothing item will receive a free voucher for admission to the Fair on same day.
