Oh I love a parade! Over 100,000 people will line the streets of downtown Fort Worth to watch the “All Western Parade” and to celebrate the opening of the 2013 Fort Worth Stock Show and Rodeo. This traditional event is held each year and boasts being the largest western themed parade, as well as the longest 100% non-motorized (no cars) parade in the world. The parade will feature over 4,000 participants including covered wagons, horses, more than 1,000 head of livestock, and of course cowboys!

Saturday, January 19, 2013 at 11:00AM
Where: The parade assembles at the corner of Weatherford and Commerce streets, heads south on Commerce, west on Ninth Street, north on Houston Street before ending at the corner of Houston and Weatherford streets. Click here to view the new 2013 parade route.

As a complement to this year’s Stock Show & Rodeo, the Central Library is inviting teens to join them for special screenings of four action-packed movies celebrating all that is rodeo.  This Saturday’s FREE movie showing features “8 Seconds” starring Luke Perry and Stephen Baldwin.

About the movie: This film chronicles the life of the 1987 Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association Bull Riding World Champion, Lane Frost. This true story follows Lane’s marriage, friendships with three-time World Champion, Tuff Hedeman and the road to becoming a rodeo legend.  Rated PG-13. 105 minutes.

Celebrate the first powered flight in Fort Worth 

On a windy afternoon on Jan. 12, 1911, Roland Garros, memmber of a touring group of French and American pilots, took to the air and became the first person to perform a powered flight in Fort Worth. A crowd of nearly 17,000 people watched the event at the Fort Worth Driving Park near present-day Montgomery Plaza. The Fort Worth Academy of Fine Arts performs The Littlest Wiseman, a pageant of the Nativity and presented as a Christmas gift to the community by the Dorothy Shaw Bell Choir and through a grant from the Walsh Foundation. This weekend, NorthWood Church in Keller is hosting a fun community Christmas Festival for the entire family. The highlight of the festival will be the Story of Christmas hayride that will take you through 13 living scenes and panoramas, including a live nativity! Each night will also feature food trucks, bounce houses, a huge petting zoo, live music, games and so much more! There will also be other special events happening on various nights ~ fireworks, snow tubing, and a visit by KLTY 94.9 radio station.

will arrive by helicopter at 8:00 AM to join all those in attendance. In addition, this year’s event will feature the FDNY Rescue 4 which responded to the World Trade Center on September 11, 2001.  Rescue 4 now travels around the country as a memorial to those who were lost in the attack.

The parade starts at La Grave Field, winds through downtown and then ends back at the Cat’s home field. This year, the Grand marshal will be Brigadier Gen. Samuel L. Henry, 36th Infantry Division assistant commander of the Texas Army National Guard.
